Rosie the Riveter Deviled EggsYou never know…When the factory whistle blew at the end of the day, Rosie the Riveter probably slid down the fuselage of the plane she was riveting, and clocked out to make that walk home with her metal dome lunch pail in hand.  On that walk home she could’ve been… MORE

Hola AR Friends and Family!!  Yes, it’s been some time since I’ve been hanging around this old place.  I’ve been re-nesting, making myself crazy with party planning and holiday cooking, and the occasional bout of feeling sorry for myself.  Now that the crazy holidays are over,  I’ve been… MORE

Just a quick heartwarming holiday story. It’s about Tias and Tamales. This holiday season is a pretty significant one for me.  This is the year that I am documenting one of the most prized of my family traditions…tamale making.  My mom and Tias (aunts in Spanish) and cousins over the last 50… MORE

Boy has it been cold!!!  For California that is.  So I don’t wanna hear from you folks back east that us whiney Californians don’t know cold.  You’re right, we don’t know cold.  But for us this is cold.  Promise me that, and I won’t balk that you guys don’t know what cold is in comparison… MORE

I’ve seen the artistic craze of Day of the Dead merchandise a lot in recent years.  I’ve even been to a Day of the Dead themed wedding, which I totally loved.  But Day of the Dead isn’t just about painted skulls, even though I haven’t met a painted skull I didn’t like.  Growing up in my… MORE

Lately seems that I've been pulling more recipes from some of my favorite blogs than I have from my cookbook collection.  The next few posts will probably be of things I've kitchen tested from blogs, or fun stuff I find on blogs.    I totally love this recipe.  How could… MORE

Not sure how I nominated myself to cook for our family New Year's gathering, but I also managed to "test" my abilities to make posole and enchiladas from scratch.  I've never made posole before and homemade enchilada sauce I did once before but threw so much stuff in it that I… MORE

About Me
Born in Mexico...raised a California girl, I'm always trying to find my roots with my cooking. I have a big family with my mom as matriarch and master cook. So I have some big shoes to fill.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking food that my mom always made when we were younger. She doesn't really have any recipes, so it's a challenge. Every time she cooks, it's a unique experience since variations on ingredients are never the same. I also love Mexican food El Paso style. I would like to dabble more in Italian and Filipino dishes. My all time fav is BBQ and down home Southern comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a Mexican Family. Family gatherings center around the kitchen and dinning areas. I love having family around the kitchen cooking, sitting around the dinner table talking, laughing, joking, drinking and eating.
My cooking triumphs
Mastered flour tortillas in 2013!!!
My cooking tragedies
That I mastered flour tortillas in 2013...I think I gained 5 lbs in one week.
