Emily's Famous Tiramisu

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
This recipe is truly Devine. If you are a tiramisu lover, this is the one. I was asked to make a tiramisu for an Italian themed dinner party. I loke tiramisu, but it normally isn't one of my favorit deserts. This tiramisu is definately on my list of favorites now. Making your own lady fingers is well worth it. I didn't use all of the rum as called for in the cream, but instead used a little bit of the rum and added a bit of rum extract. It was perfectly well balanced in flavor. Next time I make it though I will make extra of the lady fingers. They weren't enough of them to circle around the timamisu all the way. Thx. Emily

I liked this recipe alot but my family did not care for it. I don't know what's wrong with those people. They don't seem to know good food, darn it.

Mexican Corn Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I didn't care too much for this corn bread nor did my family. I have made other types of mexican style corn bread that have been much better. But, having said this - - Because I didn't want to throw it away, I decided to use the cornbread as a base for mexican style taco lasagna. Ya know sort of like using polenta in an Italian lasagna in place of the noodles. I cooked some ground beef and seasoned it up with onions, peppers, taco seasoning, etc. I spread this over the cornbread which I halved horizontally, dotted with sour cream that I flavored with cilantro, covered with shredded cheese, enchilada sauce and continued the layers. It's fantastic. I've made this a few times already for my home and for potlucks with rave reviews each time. So even though I gave this cornbread 3 stars on its own, when I've used it as I've stated above, it's a keeper.

Quick and Easy Sauteed Spinach

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I love this type of recipe. Not only does it taste good but if you eat lots you don't feel guilty because it is good for you. I used frozen spinach becasue that's what I had on hand but I know that fresh spinach would make this recipe 100 times better (especially baby spinach). I also used fresh garlic instead of the powdered garlic salt and I used kosher salt. I will definately make this recipe again.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I hate to give this recipe 2 stars, but I did not care of it. I followed the recipe as stated except I used some fresh ingredients such as; fresh tomatoes, rosemary and thyme. I imagine that if I used expensive balsamic it may have tasted better, but I can't imagine liking it 100% more. Will definately not make it again.

Brown Sugar and Port Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
I wish I could have given this sauce 5 stars but felt that it came under that. I think that the sauce had too much port wine taste therefore adding to it's acidity and contributed to a lack of smooth taste. I've made cranberry sauce in the past which contained port wine that was marvelous, but unfortunately I can't find the recipe. I'll keep looking though.

Mexican Bean Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
This was very tasty!! I have been looking for a bean salad/salsa type of dish for a while that is like one they sell at a local grocer. Even though this recipe wasn't as good than the one at the grocer, it was definately a keeper. I did add Franks hot sauce to add some zip, but found that it added more acid than it needed. It does have alot of acid in-of-itself, so next time I will tweek a bit.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This is a very nice apple crisp. A classic. Have made it 2X in the past couple of weeks. The first time I followed it to a T, the second time a added a bit of lemon juice. Next time, I will add the lemon juice but less than what I originally added. The lemon juice is a "sometimey" addition, as it depends on the type of apples used. If using sour type of apples, such as granny-smith, lemon juice won't be necessary, otherwise I like "just a hint" of zip. Loved it and so did everyone else in my house.

Roast Beef and Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This recipe was great. I don't consider this a roast beef (roast beef is oven roasted and produces a completely different product), but rather a brown gravy pot roast. I added some hot sauce (equivalent to Franks) which gave it a zip. When I make it again I will make sure to add hot sauce again. It didn't make it hot but gave it another dimension that went pleasantly well to the overall taste without changing the brown gravy concept and taste. A keeper

Kim's Prime Rib

Reviewed: May 7, 2008
I used the concept of the soy, worcestershire, etc. in this recipe and added it to my version of Beef Roast. I've been making roast by making slits into the meat and squeezing in garlic cloves sliced in half and coating with Lipton Onion Soup Mix. This time I followed Kim's recipe and coated with the Lipton Onion Soup Mix (I cut down on the soy because Lipton Onion Soup Mix already has salt. The flavor was outstanding. Highly recommend this recipe. Thx.

Coconut (Haupia) and Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2008
I really loved this recipe. It has a wonderfully pleasantly mild taste. The only thing I did wrong was to overcook my pie crust (reason for the 4 stars otherwise, I'd give it a 5 star. No fault of the submitter). I made this around Thanksgiving and I was working on a million things at a time and forgot to check the pie crust. Next time I may try this recipe with a graham cracker crust. I definitely will make again. Thank you!!

Creamy Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
This was a very good recipe and would def. make it again. The reason why I wouldn't give it a 5 star is that it lacked I believe sauted onions at the beginning. I think that would add "omph" to this recipe. I'll try and let ya know.

Badgers Cheddar and Ranch Fondue

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2007
I really liked this recipe. It is much better than some other cheese fondue recipes I've tried. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is that I found it to be a little too pungeant. Others who try this recipe might disagree. The second time I made it I tried using mild cheddar as opposed to sharp, but it still had a pungeant flavor. I love the addition of the tomatoes. Definately a keeper.

Seven-Up™ Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2007
I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for the additions which I added and find necessary. I added about 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract and instead of 2 tsp of lemon extract, I added 3 tsp. I have been making this cake forever and have recently lost the recipe. So when I made my search here on AllRecipes I was delighted to find a recipe so close to the one which I had been making. One thing to keep in mind for this recipe is watch your cooking time, especially don't let it overbake more than necessary. Once it is just done, this cake is so delightful that you won't want to make any other coffee cake. Many people who've had this cake are surprised that it is made with 7-up beverage. To be honest I use mostly ginger-ale because that's what I have on hand (therefore, reason for the extra lemon extract). Anyway, you must try, try this recipe.

Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2007
I made this recipe and added more of the cheese and also added little hot pepper. It came out good, but I think next time I'll make it exactly as called for. I think the extra spice I added took away the mushroom taste.

Dee's Roast Pork for Tacos

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2006
This wasn't bad but didn't find that it was Great!! Sorry to say that I've had better. I made this into burittos and found that the pork flavor alone was nothing to write home about (needed some umph). What did make my burittos better was the addition of sour cream, guacamole, refried beans, etc. Without these additions it would be bland. Only with more spice/modification would I make this Roast again.
