About this Cook
Asian American, Conservative Christian, married, near empty-nester, would rather be in the rose garden or watching sports than in the kitchen (but we have to eat sometime!).
My favorite things to cook
I like to bake. Like to roast and BBQ (cuz my husband does that). I like basic American food like steaks, roasts, fish, chicken and pork chops. Also like to stir fry.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On holidays, I will cook a whole meal from soup, salad to main course to dessert. My favorite cooking tradition is to eat out!
My cooking triumphs
My mom is a superior cook and I could never feel adequate as a cook with her around. Boiling water was a triumph for me at age 18. Now that I live far from her, I am beginning to feel more brave about trying new things. I have a fear of failure from my perfectionism hangup.
My cooking tragedies
I set the kitchen on fire in my college apt by leaving the bacon cooking on the stove while I was on the phone in the bedroom.

Roasted and Curried Butternut Squash Soup
I made this and substituted 2 cups of coconut milk for the yogurt, added more curry and ginger, more brown sugar, and a bit more salt. It was easy to make and my family loved it. A definite keeper.

Butternut Squash Soup
It was easier than I thought to make. I used canned chicken broth instead of bouillon and water. I also substituted heavy whip cream for the cream cheese (it was all I had on hand).
