Does a Profile Name Define you?

I don’t have to list all the cute and catchy names you know who you are or know the ones you’ve seen that just say something about a person. I know its no big deal that’s probably why I never bothered to come up with something better. Its not that hard, so why am I stumped the more I think about it.
Am I that inferior that I’m afraid someone will say my name is stupid? I think so. How sad is that? I thought about Penny’s cooking or Memaw Penny (after my mother who was called Memaw Joyce or just Memaw) though I‘m not a grandmother, but I feel like one. Texas Penny is what I’m leaning towards because for some reason I have been compelled to often sign my post Penny from Texas. I think maybe so that people know who I am. That’s the problem with plmoore2 is that no one really knows who that is or I just can’t identify with it.
I love to cook outdoor’s. How about Smokin’ Penny or Penny‘s Smokin‘? No, especially not with all the pot legalization going on across the US. What’s up with that? I mean I grew up in the 70s, but who would’ve ever thought? Maybe pennysgrillin or grillnintexas (Get it? One of those you have to take a second look at). I love all the different ways people have chosen for their profile name, but mine was simply never anything I put any thought into. Most people would say just pick what I like and feel most comfortable with. Okay, I just need to think about it.

My name just sort of came naturally. Whenever my kids would misbehave I would yell their first and middle names. If they heard that, they knew they had done wrong! One day, when my daughter was about 12 or so -I said something and swore. She yelloed out at me, "Mother Ann!!" (I was her mom and my middle name is Ann). It sort of stuck and so when I signed up on here that's what I used. She is now 28 years old and still calls me Mother Ann whenever I say goofy things that embarrass her. :) I kind of like the Smokin' Penny.

Thanks Mother Ann, that's neat to hear how you came about your name. Funny how our kids think we embarrass them sometimes. I guess it's payback. I like Smokin' Penny too.

so whatever site i am on i am still nanny129- or something very close- i am too old now to remember- who i am from one place to another- so i am just me:-)

Jan. 19, 2014 3:26 pm
Hi Nanny, that's cute. Yea I try to simplify more and more these days. I need to pick a name that will stick like it did for the two of you.

Jan. 19, 2014 5:50 pm
Hi, my name is just that my name, which is Manella. I like Smoking'Penny also.

Jan. 19, 2014 6:59 pm
I like "plmoore2," but there is no one else who regularly visits THEBUZZ who identifies themselves with the screen name "Penny," so I think you would be safe to go with that, or "Texas Penny," which tells us something about you.

Jan. 19, 2014 7:18 pm
Thank you, I saw someone that used the name Penny, but maybe it wasn't on the buzz. That was why sometimes I would sign my post Penny from Texas. hmm I'll sleep on it. Manella is unique, I like that.

My name is Cheerios because it was a cereal that I liked to eat and it was healthier than all the other cereals for me. You have to check out my blog the story of Cheerios to find out more.

What would you like to be called? That's something you have to think about. You have chosen several names. When I first started I chose "luv2cook" then later saw many; love to cook, luvtocook, luv2cook. I really wanted to change so that people would not get confused as to which person they are talking to. Now here I am! If you're want'g to know which name I liked overall I'd choose, Texas Penny. That was what you are leaning towards. You can always change it.

I think that listing your city & state is good, as well as a "nickname". They aren't connected to actual names, so you can't be traced. I like to know the city/state because I'm at high altitude & baking can be a challenge. If I see a review from someone at high altitude, I don't need to adjust the recipe right off the bat. As far as a nickname, I'd go with a name that others have called you (and you don't hate!) I was called "Blondie", but now that I'm old & mostly gray, I'd be a fraud using that. When I was working, I took my parrot to work with me, so a lot of people identified me with her. That's how "scootersandi" was born. (She's the Scooter, I'm the Sandi) Good luck choosing your "handle", but I'd leave out the last name.

I overseeded my yard during a drought one year with clover so it would be green instead of brown. My gardening friends laughed and teased me for planting weeds... So I took Clover for my ID. Doing something on a tangent or spontaneous is a huge part of my character.

How about PennyGrills

Jan. 20, 2014 10:36 am
Cheerios, thanks for sharing. I did some reading on your blog. It is pretty neat. I'll be going back to it to hear more of the story of Cheerios.

Jan. 20, 2014 10:40 am
Hi Luv2cook, is this the handle you stuck with. These post don't show whose writing as I think they used too.

Jan. 20, 2014 10:44 am
scootersandi thanks, you make a really good point and I don't think I will include my last name. I really do need to edit my profile and add city n state though I've tried a couple of times, but it didn't save.

Jan. 20, 2014 10:49 am
Clover, I love that story, and it does say something about your character.

Jan. 20, 2014 10:54 am
PennyGrills is a good one too. I'll add that to my list of choices. I just asked my grown son about my choices. He said he doesn't like the with Smokin', but I'm not ruling it out. He likes Memaw Penny, but I think it just reminds him of his grandmother and makes me sound more motherly which is fine. I like that too, but what about Memaw's Smokin?

Jan. 20, 2014 11:29 am
I came back to see what you chose, but I see you haven't yet...what do you think of "smokinmaw"? It's kind of a compromise between yours & your son's idea...OK, I'll quit butting in now! Happy New Year!

Clover again: Yes AR did used to show ID & pics on blog comments. Hopefully it's a bug and they will fix it. I sent an email gripe recently. I wish they would stop wasting time on the magazine and stick with the website. (just my opinion)

I chose Missouri Farm Wife because that is exactly what I am, after many years of being an army wife and living everywhere except on a farm. Well, not exactly a real honest-to-goodness operating farm, but we do hay in the summer and are going to raise chickens again this spring. I like 'Smoking Penny,' too.

Jan. 20, 2014 3:19 pm
I was actually thinking too about Smoke'n Memaw. Thank you for your input. I wish this site would show your name. I've read others that had that complaint as if it usually does, but it has't been lately.

Jan. 20, 2014 3:21 pm
Clover, you did well. I think I'll send AR a email too. Maybe if they get enough complaints they'll pay more attention to this site.

Jan. 20, 2014 3:41 pm
Missouri Farm Wife, that really says something about you. It shows what your proud of, and you should be. We live in the country also. Love being on the outskirts. We always thought it would be a great way to raise the kids. Worked for us.

Jan. 20, 2014 4:14 pm
grammar error "you're proud of", I know better, so I hate it when I do that.

Jan. 20, 2014 4:23 pm
Hi, this is from "Indiana Peggy". I used to be here just as Peggy. I thought I would be the only one, but this site allows duplicate names. So, I added my state. I vote for Texas Penny! Tells me something about you.

Jan. 20, 2014 4:56 pm
I don't think most people know this site allows duplicate names. Thank you for your vote. I had really leaned toward that one, but I don't know yet. By the way a lot of people over the years would think of me as Peggy if they didn't know me. You know like first meeting someone. I guess there is just some similarity.

Oh My Gosh, this Blog is cracking me up. Why? Because, my profile name is my given name... Candice. I always tell folks I'm obviously not that creative. LOL! However, wherever I go or whatever site I'm on, I always know who I am. I really love some of the profile names I see along the way too! They really do tell a lot about the individual.

Jan. 20, 2014 7:43 pm
I'm glad you enjoyed the blog. I just made a comment on the buzz to thank everyone who had contributed, but also tell how I came about a couple of other possible handles. Queen of Sting or Queen of Steam, I know there nothing like the others just something my husband would call me over the years.

When my manchild was headed to college, we had to set up an email for me - I think for his FAFSA. I was dog tired after working all night. He sat at my friend's computer, doing all the work, and asked me what I wanted to use. After answering the phone all night, "xraybarb" is what came out of my mouth. [Xray, this is Barb," is how I answered the phone in those days.] We also added the year I graduated high school. When I came here, I was blank, and just carried over the xraybarb designation. One day, after seeing a post about backwards smiles looking funny, I added my smiley to my name (= On 11/2/12, I popped on to announce that I had just become Gammy to Gabi. My buddy bd.weld said, "Congratulations gammaray!" The new name was perfect, so I kept it (= I once ran a poll to see if I should change my name to sugarbuns [a high school nickname that I thought was more site appropriate, but that got voted way down. I also changed my name to ChattyCathy and TheBagLady - but those weren't very popular - though TheBagLady makes me =D [I love and have all kinds of bags and my friend Candice (the same Candice who commented up above (= ) called me that after seeing some of my bags last spring . . .] By the way, can you tell why I was ChattyCathy for a while ;)

Jan. 21, 2014 2:45 am
Penny Candy? Worth Every Penny? Smokin' Memaw brings to mind an hilarious picture! Penny's at the Grill? Penny Wise? Lucky Penny? Penny Ante? Please - don't mind me (= I looked up "penny quotes," looking for ideas. I got lost in Penny quotes from Big Bang Theory. If I were you, right now I would become Blond Monkey! In one episode she says, "I'm just a blond monkey to you." I'm sorry! They just make me laugh so hard! Okay . . . I'm shutting up and walking away, now (=

Jan. 21, 2014 3:06 am
luv2cook is now Cheryl's Cooking Now [I believe (=] That's why she talks about wanting to change her name. It's funny how you get used to a name. It takes me a while sometimes to figure out who someone is [was?]. Sometimes I figure out who they are - right about the time they decide to switch back = lol! And as far as the names not showing up here, it is a new thing. Only since about Thursday . . . ~sigh~

Jan. 21, 2014 4:22 am
Oh, I wish I knew this is, but the website's not working right. We watch Bing Bang too. You gave me the idea to look at Penny quotes. They are funny, but I really like Penny Candy because it does associate with a food item. Thanks

Jan. 21, 2014 4:36 am
I meant to say, I wish I knew who this is

Jan. 21, 2014 5:49 am
Gammaray, thanks for sharing, I love your story, and though you may be chatty it just comes across as friendly and inviting. I don't get the Cathy because you said your name is Barb.

Jan. 21, 2014 6:46 am
That was all gammaray (= [if nothing else, my backwards smile usually gives me away (=]. Do you remember the old Chatty Cathy dolls? At one time, to get to the buzz you had to go through a "top rated" page [type thing]. Several days running I was "most active buzzer" - which I interpreted as I talked way too much (= That was when and why I changed to ChattyCathy for a couple days. I decided next time I'd be Babbling Brooke or Babbling Babs or something (=

Jan. 21, 2014 7:03 am
that is so funny, especially babbling brooks. I wish I could come up with a good one. My husband would call me Queen of Sting, but I thought he was saying Queen of Steam. I've been considering one of those also.

Jan. 21, 2014 8:03 am
Penny, Queen of the Grill...

Jan. 21, 2014 8:04 am
Outdoor Cooker

Jan. 21, 2014 8:05 am
[those are me again (=]

Jan. 21, 2014 8:07 am
....Penny Grillmarks.... [gammaray]

Jan. 21, 2014 11:26 am
I've actually been considering Grill Queen, thank for the other suggestions gammaray. Those do define me.

Jan. 21, 2014 11:49 am
You seem about halfway committed to a lot of those names so I'll suggest you call yourself, HalfPenny Grills. I'm Raedwulf because of a baby name book we aquired prior to the birth of our first daughter. It had the etimology of each name and of course we looked up our own names. My real name is Randy and it turned out my name had its genesis in a German nobleman named Radwulf with an omlusk over the A. Thusly first it was what I named my business and then just naturally became my handle everywhere.

Jan. 21, 2014 12:42 pm
Raedwulf, that is really unique just as the way you acquired it. I'm am definitely having some commitment issues on this. I think even more so now after hearing so many interesting stories of how people got their handle. I have been crossing some off the list, but still adding some too. I can do this. I just need a little more time. HalfPenny Grills is not half bad lol.

Jan. 21, 2014 12:49 pm
Halfpenny Grills, I like it, I'm adding this to the list.

Jan. 21, 2014 3:31 pm
Okay, if it were me, because I'm old and sang, "Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, please put a penny on the old man's hat. If you haven't got a penny a ha'penny will do. If you haven't got a ha'penny, Gid bless you!" in choir a gazillion years ago - and it still plays in my head! - I would would use Ha'Penny instead of Halfpenny. Playing on Randy's comment, I want to offer you a coin to flip to make up your mind. You could use the name Coin Flip ;) Or some riff on the fact that you can't make up your mind.... Too Many Choices...or some such thing (.= [gammaray]

Jan. 21, 2014 7:15 pm
I did it. I am now MsPenny. Thank you and God bless you. I'll never forget all the fun of hearing about everyone's name, learning so much about you, and the support you gave me when I was being such a big wimp. I wish I could have been something more cute, catchy or cool. I am what I am, I am MsPenny.

Jan. 23, 2014 7:50 am
I like the ring of "MsPenny" :) Another crazy name here -- Godzilla

Jan. 23, 2014 11:59 pm
Thanks Godzilla, I like your name also, and I always thought Miss Penny had a ring to it. I've often been called that in my lifetime, so it just fits like an old shoe.
