I have been married 50 years to my high school sweetheart. We have 13 grandchildren and almost 9 great-grands.Our son and oldest daughter are the gourmet cooks in our family. We have lived in Iowa all of our lives until recently when we moved to Colorado to be closer to our grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We have been spending our winters the last 10 years in Central Florida. We have written 12 family histories between us and had them publshed for family all over the world. We like to travel, camp, fish, email, a pet cat, "Phoebe", I play the piano and do art when I get the chance and also, crocheting. I love flower gardening and feeding the birds and all the stray animals in the area. I am a Christian and sing in the choir, etc.
My favorite things to cook
Easy meals, mainly. I used to be more gourmet but at my age of 67 it is much easier to eat out than to cook those kind of meals. I like to use my crockpot, George Foreman grill, microwave and oven meals. Since we were diagnosed with diabetes 2 7 years ago I try to stick to a diabetic meal plan. I have lost 120 lbs. since I was diagnosed. I do like to try new recipes and have a large collection of cookbooks (400 +).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family loves my homemade bread rolls, potato salad, meat loaf, scalloped corn, etc. and all of the old-time recipes that have been handed down since the 1800's.
My cooking triumphs
As a 4-H member and mother I have won many blue and purple ribbons for my baking, mainly but also for jams, jellies, canning.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a kid my Mom hated to make desserts and peel potatoes. So that was my job! My first chocolate cake was a disaster as Mom wasn't home and somehow I used salt instead of sugar in it. Ick!!!
