Barbecue Tofu Sandwiches

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2005
I changed the recipe to make it a bit healthier (that's the reason for eating tofu, right?) by reducing the oil to only 1 tsp, using about 1/4 cup of barbecue sauce, and serving it with tomato slices on a whole wheat bun. It was pretty good, I'll probably make it again. I prepared the tofu by slicing it and browning it in the toaster oven first - the texture is much "meatier" and less watery that way. Nice recipe, thanks.

Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2005
What did I do wrong? The spices were WAY too much - it was overpowering, I couldn't even taste the meat, it was so salty. I can't believe this recipe got such good reviews. I also used a barbecue sauce that was too flavorful, I should have used a bland store-bought sauce. The tenderloin was super tender and juicy, but it's hard to go wrong with pork tenderloin. The indirect heat method was easy, although I wasn't really sure how hot to keep the grill - I ended up at about 450 to begin with, then allowed it to cool to 350 for the rest of the cooking time, and the meat was perfect. I will definitely grill pork tenderloin like this again, only with a tenth of the spices and sauce.

Garden Fresh Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2005
I was skeptical, but this turned out yummy! I will be making this alot. My 1 yr old finished off a bowl of this soup in no time. The cloves really make the soup.

Melt in Your Mouth Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2005
I followed the other reviewers suggestions and cut the soy sauce by half and added 1/4 c brown sugar. Marinated chicken for the grill tonight - delicious!

Fra Diavolo Sauce With Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
Wow! This is a great recipe. Very spicy, very garlicy, a little sauce goes a long way. Even so, I cannot see how this would serve 8 people....we served 3 with this amount of sauce. Next time I'll make more, and will use less oil. Thank you!

Crab Ceviche

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
Very good! The entire dish was devoured before dinner was even cooked. It's basically pico de gallo with crab meat, who would have thought it'd be so yummy? I plan to use this recipe whenever we have a potluck or picnic to contribute to. Thanks!

Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2005
This was sooooo good. Since I read the reviews first, I knew it was going to be a biscuit-y cake. It was heavenly! A thick, slightly sweet biscuit cake topped with sugared strawberries and homemade whipped cream (I like mine sweet, so I added sugar and vanilla) was amazing. I've never had "real" strawberry shortcake before.....and I'll never go back to the spongy packaged-cake kind. Delicious. I can't wait to serve it to friends and family!

Vegetable and Tofu Stir-fry

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2005
I'm not sure where I went wrong with this recipe. The first half of it started out great - the ginger, garlic, and onion was heavenly. The tofu cooked up nicely with it (a tip I got from another allrecipe.com-er - bake the tofu first until it browns slightly, it makes it firmer, drier, and easier to cook with). The fresh ginger gave it a wonderful taste. But my sauce was not sweet, it tasted mostly like vinegar - there was no depth to it. And for whatever reason, it didn't thicken up. I should have used more cornstarch. Ultimately, I probably won't make this again; I'll look for a different sauce to top my tofu and veggies. I will keep the garlic, ginger, and onion saute from the beginning of this recipe. Thanks, Bansree!

Zucchini Saute

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2005
I added crushed garlic (fresh) and this was a great way to fix the fresh veggies from our garden. I didn't think I liked zucchini before, but the tomatoes and onion added a bit of sweetness. I didn't bother with the rice or water, as I wanted a strictly vegetable dish. We will make this again for sure!

Spicy Spaghetti Squash

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2005
Not bad. I don't care for either spaghetti squash nor ground turkey, and this was a decent way to fix both. However, even for our Tex-Mex-spicy-loving family, this was too hot. I'd halve the red pepper flakes. As is, it left my lips and mouth feeling burnt.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: May 18, 2005
A simple, good recipe. Very easy to make, but I think I'll use chicken tenders next time for more crunch per bite. Smells great cooking, I used fresh crushed garlic.

Thanksgiving Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 1, 2005
This was a good way to make ground turkey. The stuffing was a great addition. It was a little dry, but easily remedied with some turkey gravy over the top. Even my one year old loved it! I'll make it again for sure.

Easy Biscuit Mixture

Reviewed: May 1, 2005
I've made two dishes using this recipe: Cheddar Bay Biscuits (from allrecipes.com) and pancakes. The biscuits turned out well, but the pancakes were soooooo thick and chewy - the texture wasn't great, the taste was just blah. I won't be using this biscuit mix recipe again.

Sesame Pasta Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
I don't know what I did wrong, but this recipe was a disaster. The vinegar taste was much too strong, the chicken was dry in comparison to the oily noodles, and the chicken kept sliding down to the bottom of the bowl. The sesame seeds were gritty and unpleasant. There was nothing redeeming about the way this turned out.

Carne Guisada II

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
I did not like this recipe at all. Much too much tomato for my taste. And though it's not the fault of the recipe, my meat was tough and dry, overall a thoroughly unpleasant culinary experience.

Habichuelas Guisadas

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
I'v never had Puerto Rican food before, so I can't speak to the authenticity of this dish. I didn't care for the taste, I won't make it again. I prefer longer, slow cooking bean recipes so the flavors can mix. This had very, very strong flavors! (Like I said, I'm not accustomed to Puerto Rican food)

BBQ Chicken Pizza

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2005
I made this exactly per the recipe, and it was awesome! Very, very good pizza. We used KC Masterpiece spicy original for the sauce and cut up a precooked rotisserie chicken for ease. I used Jay's Signature Pizza Crust (perfect) from allrecipes.com. I would make no changes whatsoever - it was the best pizza I've ever made!
