I had a great teacher ,my mom .Although she didn't teach me everything I do know, most of it was trial and error. She never measured anything , she just turned out great tasting food, so I try to do the same .
My favorite things to cook
Gumbos',soups, dumplings, biscuits, still working up the courage to try pie crusts, tried and failed, not a great fan of failure when I have a filling waiting and crust turned out bad. This has led me to buy crusts already made and they are cheaper in my books,I don't cook that many anyway.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners ,My mom pulled out all the stops. We were a family of 10 children ,so learning to cook was a survival mode for her I think .But during the Holidays there were 20-30 pies and about 10-15 different cakes and the cornbread dressing if you wanted it turn out right each time you did not deviate from the ingredients.
My cooking triumphs
When the Pastor at my church wanted to pay me to make him chicken~n~ dumplins. And every time a visiting missionary came for a visit ,he requested my pineapple bundt cake with filling ,wonderful and he loved it, so he figured every one would I guess.
My cooking tragedies
Any time i ask people to dinner and some item suffers because of lack of attention ,then I suffer because it is embarrassing.
