All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
Excellent idea! I filled up the crockpot with small diced apples. I only used 1 cup of brown sugar. I did not have cloves so I used allspice instead. YUMMY! I'll never buy applebutter again.

Asian Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
Very good! I cut back on the oil and butter as others have done. I read the leftovers were not great and I only have my son and I to feed. So problem solved: I just keep the dressing and cooked crunchies (seperate) in the fridge and make up a small amount when we want some. If you have only tried the pre-packaged cabbage -you MUST try the real thing Napa cabbage is so much better.

Bacon and Date Appetizer

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
Sounds strange but SO delicious. Trust me try it. You can't eat many because of the richness, but Mmmmmmm. I used smoked almonds and thin sliced bacon, so it was crunchy. Keep you eye on them constantly and I turned them 1/2 way through.

Seven-Up™ Cake II

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
Pretty good. Nothing super special though. It turned out tasting like a regular 'ole pound cake. I had to use sprite because I had no 7-up. Followed the directions exact. No complaints, I served it with berries and whip cream.

Favorite Banana Blueberry Quick Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 6, 2008
With a couple of modifications this is total 5 star bread. I followed the other reviewers advice and used applesauce instead of shortening. I had some so why not cut the fat?! I also used 1 full cup of frozen (not thawed) blueberries. Any fruit bread I make gets a dash of cinnamon, fresh nutmeg and vanilla -just a dash of each. I used 1/2 brown and 1/2 white sugar also (personal preference) I baked it in 3 mini loaf pans on a cookie sheet and it still took almost the full cook time. Crunchy on the outside and moist and yummy in the center! I don't think I would try this bread in a large bread pan, it may have never been cooked through. My 10 year old ate almost a full tin by himself! Perfect for a Sunday morning treat! Thanks

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
AWESOME pancakes!!! Thanks for submitting this. I followed the recipe exactly (except added a dash of vanilla) I also let the milk and egg come to room temp before mixing. I let the batter rest 10 minutes too. As written the recipe made 8 big pancakes. YUM YUM YUM! I had some frozen blueberries to use up, so I threw them in a pan with a few tblsp. of sugar and some lemon juice and heated it up and viola` we had a blueberry syrup to enjoy with these terrific pancakes. Thanks again!

Grandma VanDoren's White Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
WOW WOW WOW I followed the directions exactly as written (used 4 pkgs rapid yeast) and this bread is so good!!! My son tasted it and said, "Can we have this bread everyday for the rest of our lives"?! I made 2 regular sized loaves(cooked for 40 minutes) and 4 mini loaves(cooked for 30 minutes) and my family is sure going to be glad, I am giving them a couple mini loaves for Christmas!

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2007
DELICIOUS! I am rating this a five, but I used REAL BUTTER as suggested in other reviews. My 9 year old son who has hated every blueberry crisp/bar/muffin I have ever made LOVED it. I also added some sliced almonds to the top crumble. SO good, warm or cold right out of the fridge.

Chicken Enchiladas V

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2007
YUM -I used the southwestern soup instead of cream of chicken and doubled the sauce recipe. Definetly spray the pan with non-stick spray. GREAT inexpensive way to use up leftover chicken breast.

Baklava

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2007
SUPERB recipe! I followed the other reviewers *hints* because I had never worked with phyllo before this and it still turned out wonderful. I used walnuts because I didn't want to use expensive nuts until I tried the recipe. I'll go for it next time! I also made some extra sauce as suggested, but I think it was a little too moist.......so next time I'll just use the amount stated - it's personal preference as far as that goes. THANK YOU for a great recipe!

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies VII

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
YUMMY! After reading the reviews, I boiled the raisins too, great tip. I only had brown sugar and I cut it down a little. I added 1/2 cup mini M&M's. For easier spreading I sprayed a spatula with non-stick spray and used that to spread. Great recipe -thanks

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2006
SO PERFECT! I have made several white bread recipes from this site. If you want the perfect loaves of bread use this recipe. I had to sub. butter for lard (did'nt have any lard) and they rose perfect and tasted wonderful. Great for sandwiches and toast. Not mushy or crumbly. It tastes just like my Grandmas white bread. Finally this is THE recipe I will use from now on. thanks so much for posting it

Famous Restaurant Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
waaaaay TOO cream cheesy........not REAL italian alfredo. That can NOT be the olive garden recipe. I know for a fact they use real garlic and parmesan. Try this- it's MUCH closer..... 1 pint heavy cream, (1/2 and 1/2 is good too) 1/2 cup real butter, 2 tblsp. cream cheese, 3/4 cup of shredded parmesan, 1 large or 2 small cloves garlic chopped. Simmer all ing. (except parmesan) on LOW for atleast 20 minutes (stir occasionally) - add parmesan last, melt completely, then season to taste with salt and pepper.

Zucchini Bread II

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2006
It was really good and went over well at a party I brought it to. I used four mini loaf pans and it fit perfectly. I added about a tsp. of fresh grated nutmeg due to a few reviews saying the flavor was just okay. I also used pecans because thats what I had on hand. I only baked it for about 30 minutes at 350 instead of 325. I'll make this again for sure.

Lemon Bars I

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2006
DELICIOUS!!! I followed the advice of the other reviews and added 1 extra tablespoon of butter to the crust mixture and only baked the crust for 15 minutes. I really love lemon so I added a HEAPING tablespoon of zest and 4 tablespoons of juice. MMmmmmmmmm perfect flavor. My 8 year old was so impressed that he said "these are better than Grandmas" but we won't tell her that ;) Thank you!!

Whole Wheat Honey Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2006
I didn't have the dry milk so I too used 1 cup water 1/8 cup skim milk. I also subbed 2 tbsp. canola oil for the shortening. I proofed the yeast in the cup of water at(110 degrees) sprinkled with a little sugar. Let the yeast proof for 5 minutes or so. That way you do not waste ingredients, if your yeast doesn't proof START OVER because your loaf will be rock hard. I have a kitchen aid mixer so I let that do the kneading for about 2 minutes. I do not have a bread machine either so I let it rise once for and hour, then I put it in the greased breadpan and let it rise another hour. It baked for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. It was GREAT bread. My 8 yr. old loved it and had no idea it was good for him. Thanks for this recipe!!

Raspberry White Chocolate Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
I needed a recipe for using up my leftover frozen raspberries and I found it! After reading the reviews, I decided to sweeten it up by using half & half, instead of milk and added 1/2 cup sugar instead of 1/3 cup. I also used 3/4 cup of white choc. chips. I made the coffee cake version and YUMMY. My family lovred it. Also-- it only took about 30-35 minutes at 375 degrees.
