Why do pancakes hate me?

Pancakes. A classic breakfast item that almost everyone enjoys. pancakes are basically a staple of any breakfast table but I myself cannot even make them! That's right, it seems like pancakes are possibly one of the easiest items it make and I have never been able to make them! The one thing that throws me off is flipping the pancake. It seems like every time I have tried to flip a flapjack it ends up falling flat on the floor! Oh but I'm not bitter, sometimes its ends up becoming a half flipped, gooey, messy blob in the pan. I'm not going to give up thought, one day I will fantastically flip that flapjack and I will be the pancake master! Though that day does not seem to be any were in sight. So do any of you guys have a problem making a certain food?

Fried potatoes used to be the food I would mess up. Too much oil, not enough oil. Then, someone here on the Buzz suggested a recipe that works. http://www.food.com/recipe/uncle-bills-fried-potatoes-and-onions-158832

If you really want to make good pancakes invest a few dollars in a flat electric giddle pan. It is set for a temperature and stays at that temp. It is non-stick so no large amount of oil needed. It is flat so the pancakes are easy to turn. All your problems are solved. Also don't use pancake mix. The recipes from scratch are much better

Baking powder biscuits defeated me for years. Lost count of how many different recipes I eagerly tried. Even Betty Crocker let me down. Two years ago I finally found THE RECIPE! Perfect, flaky, tender biscuits are now baked by ME! (

Gabe, we all have some food that tries to defeat us that is how we wound up on Allrecipes :D Check out this video: http://allrecipes.com/video/174/how-to-make-pancakes/detail.aspx?e11=how%20to%20make%20pancakes&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&event8=1&prop24=SR_Showcase&e7=%2fcook%2f180034163%2fblogentry.aspx. Also the advice given above about investing in an electric griddle is great. Before you know it, you will be a pancake pro. I like that you are Thinking Outside of the Box :)

The video link above is a good one, but it didn't specifically mention one very helpful tip. The batter will bubble, yes, but wait until the bubbles pop and remain open -- if you look at the video you can see that when the pancake is ready to flip, the bubbles have popped and look like little craters in the top of your pancake. THAT's when they're ready to flip. Makes flipping much easier because the pancake has some substance. Good luck!
