About this Cook
20yrs old, living in Germany, dating the butcher and enjoying the free meat
My favorite things to cook
I had been intrigued by more complex gourmet cooking, but since moving abroad i've found myself pulled toward comfort food, and cooking the things I simply can't get over here, like mexican food (they come close, but not quite) and apple pie
My favorite family cooking traditions
summer cooking with the whole family, from the matriarch to the toddlers, and cocktail hour down the shore.

Sardines with Sun-Dried Tomato and Capers
This is a great fast way to get more sardines into your diet (they are packed with goodness and cost so much less than the salmon everyone seems bent on getting us to eat). I made this and served over mixed green with a dressing made from the olive oil the sardines were packed in and lemon juice. I also added a few pitted and coarsely chopped kalamata olives I had on hand. It was delicious! But of course, I bet it would be a five star amazing recipe with fresh Sardines.

German Potato Cheese Soup
I havent tried this recipe yet but to reply to the reviewer from middle bavaria, I also live in middle bavaria (regensburg) and I was about to make the same comment about callling a recipe german that calls for swiss cheese, but you beat me to it. However the point of my comment is this, if you are looking for cheddar go to the closest kaufland and head for the cheese counter- it does exist here, it just takes going to a giant discount supermarket to find it (I've never found it in netto but ours is small, and a bigger aldi might have it too).
