I love nutrition and have a very solid knowledge base in this area. I can follow a recipe. That's about it. I enjoy trying new meals that are overall healthy, on the lower side of calories, little to no sauce, veggies that are deliciously prepared. I prefer recipes with 5 or less ingredients (not including the salt, pepper, garlic, onion or herbs).
I detest white sugar and artificial sweeteners.
My favorite things to cook
I make a great Baked Ziti that I cook in an iron skillet and finish in the oven. (canned whole peeled tomatoes, pasta, fresh basil, heavy cream, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes). It is always a hit. Always!
My favorite family cooking traditions
NOT MY FAVORITE, but it is how my family eats - U.S.East Coast, Southern style, all things buttered, fried or overcooked. Bad for you.
MY FAVORITE - The cakes my grandmother would make, particularly Applesauce and Carrot cakes. I probably wouldn't eat them today because of the white sugar. Instead I would probably use Agave and a healthy oil.
My cooking triumphs
Learning how to cook healthy, gaining plenty of nutritional knowledge over the last 20+ years and being able to identify what is healthy and what is not.
My cooking tragedies
I don't know if I truly have a tragedy. There are recipes that I will just never cook again.
