Russian Tea

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2014
Perfect! I'm tripling this batch and giving away as Christmas gifts this year. Hubby and I sampled a cup and we both loved it! I'm also keeping some for my own home. I have memories of my mom giving me a warm cup of Russian tea to soothe my throat when I had a bad cough as a kid. I'm happy to have found this recipe and have some on hand to give my kids when they need a warm treat or a sweet, soothing remedy.

Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2014
Meh. I was expecting something more rich and indulgent as I intend to give this mix as gifts for Christmas. So...I doubled the chocolate drink mix, the powdered sugar, the (chocolate flavored) creamer, and the cocoa powder. I am also going to run some candy canes through my food processor and add it to my mix. My tags will say "Peppermint Cocoa Mix" and will instruct consumers to mix with milk rather than water. This will be very creamy and indulgent, the way a homemade hot cocoa mix gift should be! Otherwise it would just be easier to buy Nestle cocoa mix and package it for gifts rather than make your own and have it not be as good.

Basic Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2014
Wow I just made homemade biscuits! And they're delicious! I subbed butter for the shortening. I did not have a designated biscuit cutter or round cookie cutter so I cut my dough with an upside down drinking glass. Turned out perfect! Don't make the mistake of rolling them too thin...they just don't look right. The second time rolling out my dough I was a little more conscious of the thickness and consequently those biscuits look more like...biscuits.

Teena's Spicy Pesto Chicken and Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
This is a great, quick and easy recipe to throw together for weeknight dinners. The combination of pesto and hot chili sauce is different and unexpected. There is a spicy kick to this dish! I could not find the hot chili paste, so I got the hot chili sauce in the asian aisle...hope it's close enough!

Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2014
Wow! This is exactly what I've been craving! This recipe couldn't be easier, either. I actually cooked a large package of chicken breasts for about 4 hours on low in my crockpot. I tok half the chicen out for a different recipe and shredded the other half of the chicken. I put this chicken back in the crockpot on warm with the butter, wing sauce, and ranch mix for two hours. This was sooo good! I think I could grab a fork and eat the whole mixture straight from the crockpot! Next time I'll double it!

Puppy Chow

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2014
Hey, thanks for the recipe! This is such a fun treat so I decided to make some for our familiy's camping trip. My son has a peanut allergy, so I was going to sub Sunbutter for the PB. Well I found myself at our small town's tiny grocery store staring at the nonexistant options for PB alternatives. My only choice was a jar of $13 almond butter or $4 Nutella. I grabbed the Nutella. It made a great Puppy Chow! Very chocolately but still a hint of nutty flavor. I have a large family so used the whole 13 oz jar of nutella, almost a whole package of chocolate chips (I just reserved a handful or two of chocolate chips to throw into energy bars I'm making) and a whole box of rice chex (~13 oz). I did end up using more powdered sugar too since I wanted each piece thoroughly coated to keep little fingers from getting sticky as much as possible. Just wanted to add the nutella option in case anyone needs a PB alternative or would like it more chocolately! Yum!

Mayo Parmesan Chicken with Rice

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2014
This dish was very tasty! I will be making this again and possibly bringing to others when they need a home-cooked meal delivered. My son who dislikes chicken even ate it! I have a large family so I used 3 breasts, split horizontally to make 6 pieces. I also doubled the rice and water. It filled my 9x13 pan nicely and I still had plenty of the mayo mixture to evenly coat the chicken breasts and then some! Everyone in my family loved the mayo mix and parmesan on the chicken. I found 1/2 cup of the parmesan was more than enough. I didn't have fresh rosemary so used about 2+ teaspoons dried rosemary. I only had brown rice on hand, so used that, but consequently the rice was not done by the time the chicken was. Not the recipe's fault as brown rice takes longer to cook and I should have considered that. Next time I will either use white rice or I will just bake the brown rice for a while until half cooked, then add the chicken and bake for another 45 minutes. Also, I added frozen peas to the rice mixture. I really liked the extra color and taste the peas added to the dish. I felt like it rounded out the meal and added extra nutrition. This dish would be great served with some homemade rolls! Thanks for a great recipe!

Mom's Warm Milk

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2014
Great beverage for adults and kids alike! Thanks for this recipe! I altered a little. I halved the sugar, since I'm trying to reduce my family's sugar intake. Also, I did 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon. We used skim milk and brown sugar. It was warming and calming and heavenly on a chilly September afternoon.

Smells lovely while cooking and tastes amazing! A great way to use up bruised or mushy apples. This recipe made my "throw away" apples into "wow!"

Emily's Dressing for Taco Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2014
This sauce is a fun addition to our taco night. I didn't have sour cream so I subbed mayo and it was very good. Next time I will try sour cream but won't hesitate to make it using the mayo again. Thanks for the recipe.

Caesar Salad Supreme

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2014
Amazing caesar salad and dressing! I made it as written the first time, anchovies and all. Wonderful! Dressing is creamy, but not too thick or unspreadable as others have said. I used slightly less than 3/4 cup mayo simply because I was at the bottom of my jar. I can't imagine a couple more spoonfuls making a difference in the consistency though! I'm making it again now and I'm using 2 cloves of garlic in the dressing instead of the 3 specified. We liked the taste with 3, but wanted to see if we preferred the dressing with 2 instead. I think it'll just make it not so strong and tasting garlic for the rest of the night!

Bacon and Parmesan Penne Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2013
This is a great recipe with my modifications. I cooked bacon separately first in a skillet. Then I scooped cooked bacon out and sautéed onion and about 3 cloves minced fresh garlic in bacon drippings. I also added a can of diced Italian tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste to the cooked onion. Finally, after incorporating the pasta and onion mixture and olive oil, I sprinkled on some parsley and basil. Wonderful for some extra color and flavor. I will be making this dish again. Thank you SusieQ for sharing this recipe.
