All new or tried & true?

Do you experiment? Not like you did, ahem, in college (or elsewhere), but in the kitchen. Or are you the type, like me, that chooses to take a classic recipe and after the initial try, tweak it to your taste. I see many reviews where people choose to tweak the original recipe. I, also, see where some people get irked at others tweaking a recipe. I find it to be a necessity to tweak on most recipes. But something I rarely do is create a meal from scratch. I'm not comfortable, yet, mixing and matching herbs. One main reason is I don't have the time to experiment. In fact, that's why I became a member so I research and try recipe's already found to be delicious. So, are you a creator or are you like me?

I'm a tweaker, of recipes of course, but then again sometimes I leave them as is. I read the reviews and find some helpful ideas (tweaks) that will work well. If I tweak a recipe so much that it's not even near the original I won't leave a review. I often experiment in my office (kitchen), some good some bad. I've found some of my favorite recipes here and didn't have to tweak them, but I'll continue to experiment/tweak, it's just my nature.

I try not to tweak if I'm going to review the recipe. Sometimes you have to make a substitution though. And sometimes you just have to tweak. "It needs bacon!" is my battle cry! I do occasionally create a dish. More often I'll be trying to recreate something I tried elsewhere. What's with all the Jersey people? I'm on the outskirts of the Pinelands.

I'm both. I love to make things with out a receipt. I tweak if I'm trying something new. But I don't change baked goodies. Most of the time ;-)

I usually make a recipe as is the first time around, then tweak. I'd have to say hubby is the more adventurouse one in experimenting and making up his own recipes.

I am most definitely a tweaker. I ditto bd.weld completely and like Fefe, I don't mess around with baked goods. Too risky since baking breads, etc. is a whole chemical process. I can read a recipe and know if it's something that I will tweak for our tastes and most assuredly, 1 clove of garlic = 4 cloves of garlic in my kitchen! Fun post, drescueman! Thank you!

I am a tweaker and proud of it. To me a recipe is a guideline a d cooking a creative process. I don't set out with the intent of finding a recipe to change but it seems to happen quite often. Even with baking, I can usually edit to accommodate what I have on hand or personal preference. There are some recipes that are simply good ideas gone wrong. The important thing to me is producing enjoyable food and having fun doing it.

If possible I will like others do a recipe as it is written first then tweak. But on the next go round will tweak with items that the family love.

Definitely like you! I'm a great recipe follower and tweaker. But to make something up? No way!
