Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2014
Holy cow! And by holy cow I mean devine bovine! I substituted honey with Splenda brown sugar because I'm on a low carb diet. I substituted the black pepper and cayenne pepper with lemon pepper and chilli powder because that's what I had on hand. I pan seared each side and broiled on highfor about 9 minutes each side bbecause my bbq was broken. DElish! Melted in my mouth and the flavor was spectacular. Will DEFINITELY make again! Happy Hubby big time. Thanks!

Blue Cheese and Pear Tartlets

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
This was good. I gave it four stars instead of five due to personal taste and the fact that it was impossible for me to find a store that carried pre-made philo dough shells. I had to make my own by forming philo dough sheets I cut and buttered into a muffin pan. So for me, there was extra tedious work I had not planned on. Also, I made them with Gorgonzola cheese instead of Blue cheese, but it was still too pungent for my taste. The concept is there though, so I plan to make them again with a different, milder, cheese, and....after I find a place that sells the shells pre-made.

Perfect Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
WOW! This was our first time doing a brine on a turkey and it came out wonderful. So simple. The turkey was so moist. I think this was the first time I have ever been at a Thanksgiving where there was no turkey left. We also layered the back of the turkey with bacon strips before turning, then removed after. Because, you know, everything's better with bacon! Also, did a stuffing inside the bird, then added roasted potatoes around for presentation. Yuuuuuummmmm...

Country Apple Dumplings

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2011
O...M...G...I could not believe how amazing these were! I made this exactly as recipe was written and it was awesome. I will admit, at first, I was skeptical, but I tried it because everyone was raving about them. It was my first time making dumplings, and too me, after I added everything together, it looked like a big gloppy mess. So I crossed my fingers, as I made this Thanksgiving day with no test run, and put it in the oven. It looked and smelled fantastic when it came out, but the best part was the first bite. I was floored. So moist and delish, the apple inside was not mushy or chewy, but soft like butter. It was everyone's favorite dish at our Thanksgiving dinner this year, and several people begged for the recipe. Will definitely be going into my permanent recipe file of family favorites. Thank you for such a wonderful recipe!

Mini Pineapple Upside-Down Cakes

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2011
I made these as the dessert for a Christmas dinner one year. I did not have jumbo sized muffin pans as that seemed like a good idea another reviewer had suggested, so I just worked with what I had. Trimming the pineapple was a little bit of a pain in the you-know-what, but worth it. I tried a couple with crushed pineapple and they didn't look as nice. I also followed the suggestion to go by the directions on the cake box instead of using the pineapple juice because I felt it would be too sweet for my taste. All in all, they were very pretty, tasted awesome, and everyone loved having their own little dessert. Cute, easy idea. Thanks!

Chocolate Meringue Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
These are wonderfully light and have a nice soft, not sticky chewy, center. Definately have to store in air tight container. I tried to bring some to work and just plastic wrapped a plate. They were a mess. Still tasted good though. :-)

Carrot Souffle

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2010
Great souffle. I made this last night and my husband and son both loved it. I took some suggestions from other reviewers though. I used 1/3 c white sugar and 1/3 c brown sugar, and also added.1 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. I put all the ingredients in a processor until nice and smooth. I looked wonderful, smelled fabulous, and tasted even better! Thanks submitter and reviewers.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2010
I made this pie the other day as a test run for Thanxgiving as I have never made pecan pie before. I followed suggestions to minimize the bourbon and sugar, and put a layer of chocolate chips on the bottom instead of mix it in. I also drizzled some dark chocolate across the top for presentation and added taste. This recipe makes a lot of filling, so next time I'm going to try a deep dish crust, but it was soo yummy with the graham crust I used and everyone loved it. It was announced as a must for this upcoming holiday. Thanks!
