Pretty in Pink Sangria

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
The flavor was excellent. It gets 4 stars because adding frozen strawberries was pretty at first, but the longer it sat there, the more bloated and colorless they got. Stick with traditional orange and lemon slices. They look nice floating for hours!

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Reviewed: May 11, 2010
Super easy and delicious. I misread the directions and added 1 1/2 cups of water (scaled up to make 6 was supposed to be 1/4c plus 2 tbsp). I thought, "That doesn't look right." So I left it uncovered and brought it to a low boil to let the water evaporate and then put the lid on and turned it off. May just do that again because it tasted great and was ready about 20-30 minutes faster. Whole family loved it!

Summer Squash Bread

In a word, bland. Surprisingly bland considering how much nutmeg I used! Followed recipe exactly. Sorry to say, I won't be making this again. The search continues.

Grilled Zucchini and Squash

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
I really liked this recipe and I will make it again. I quartered and sliced the squash and zucchini- personal preference- and added carrots sliced thinly on the bias. 5 stars because it was so easy and had a very nice flavor that let the veggies shine.

Corn and Zucchini Melody

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2008
Tasty way to use up zucchini. Next time I will saute the onions until tender before adding the rest. I don't care for crunchy onions. I used extra sharp cheddar since I had no jack cheese and added a pinch of cayenne. It would be great with red bell pepper. I will make it again.

Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2008
I give this 4 stars because I didn't follow the instructions exactly. Yes, I adjusted it after reading some reviews. Used 1/2 the butter, left out the mushroom (don't like them) added and egg a pinch of nutmeg and cayenne. I also prebaked the crust for about 7 minutes. Crust was nice. Forgot the Cheddar at the store, so I used Monterrey Jack. Couldn't find herb and garlic feta, either, so used plain. Probably would have been eve better with the extra spices, but even so, my book club couldn't stop complimenting me. That's always nice.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
I think these are even BETTER than the ones from the mall. Not only do they taste wonderful, they make the house smell incredible and, let's face it, that's what sucks us to the counter. How can anything I make myself, at home, for a fraction of the cost, with hardly any effort compare with the mall! I followed the recipe verbatim and they turned out beautifully. My 3 very young children even helped shape them. They came out a little "rustic" looking, but when something tastes this good, you can forgive appearances.

Strawnana Bread

Perfect as written, moist flavorful with pleasant strawberry surprise inside every bite. I only have one loaf pan (gasp!), so I baked it in a bundt for the same amout of time. Turned out beautifully!

Egg and Sausage Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2005
This would have received 5 stars except that it was WAY too cheesy. I reduced the amount of cheese to 1 cup of each and it was much better. As a matter of fact it was fantastic.

Holiday Chicken Salad

Fantastic! Served at a shower, husband acted as quality control and was very sad to see these leave our home. Not too hard too make considering the quality outcome.

Bacon and Tomato Cups

Be sure to use a regular size muffin tin to avoid being too bready. Press out the dough to fit and then fill. Wildly popular at baby shower. Doubled recipe and made 24 regular muffin tins.

Creamy Dill Cucumber Toasties

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2004
served at a baby shower and loved by all. I couldn't find baguettes at my store, so I used similar size bread. I think it was possibly a little bready, maybe sliced thinner would help.

Floating Island Punch

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2004
This was a very delicious punch. The reason I am giving it 4 stars is because it was too sweet. I suggest that you leave out the syrup. It really didn't need it. What the guests at the shower ended up doing was watering it down with seltzer. Was very pretty.

Firecracker Burgers

Reviewed: May 22, 2004
Don't be fooled by the name. These are far from "Firecracker" but if you know green chile peppers, you know that from reading the recipe. I didn't have boullion on hand, so I used beef soup mix. These were incredibly juicy. Loved 'em. If you want spicy burgers try Firecracker Burgers submitted by McCormack or Cajun Burgers submitted by Gail. I think I will add boullion to all my burger recipes from now on! Great idea!

Smoked Turkey And Sun-Dried Tomato Wraps

Reviewed: May 9, 2004
I give this recipe 4 stars because I did not make it the way it's written. But what I did make was fantastic. I doubled this recipe and then misread it. Instead of mixing 2 containers of pesto with 1/2c cream cheese, I mixed 2 Tbsp with 1/2c cream cheese. The results were delicious and now I can't imagine that doing it the way it's written could be any better, especially since pesto is not cheap.

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2004
Much better than from the jar. We have a lot of really good, authentic Italian restaurants where I live and it wasn't quite as good as what we can get there. Still it was creamy and rich, the best I've made at home and will make it again.

B.L.T. Salad with Basil Mayo Dressing

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2004
This was great! Very easy and flavorful. Croutons were simple to make. The scale of this recipe says serves 4 and I guess that could be true if you want it as a meal, but if you want a side dish, I'd scale it back.
