About this Cook
Cooking has become a hobby that I really enjoy. I'm lucky since my family is willing to try anything that I attempt to make. I really got into cooking with the birth of our child since the spouse and I couldn't really take him out to all of the fine dining establishments that we had grown to love. I wanted to replicate that awesome food experience as much as possible.
My favorite things to cook
Big breakfasts: homemade pancakes, waffles, German pancakes, fruit quick breads. Dinner: grilling fish, chicken, pork and steaks. Huge salads with protein. Pizzas, pastas and sauces. Baking and decorating cakes. Making anything that can be purchased in a store such as graham crackers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Saturday, is homemade pizza night. I make everything: the dough, the sauce, etc. The family likes experimentation!
My cooking triumphs
Whenever something turns out better than expected!
My cooking tragedies
I made an authentic ethnic Christmas meal (entree & dessert)in 2010 following a traditional cookbook. The ingredients were so expensive, and the meal took several hours to prepare. To make it even worse, everything was super salty to the point of being inedible. For dessert, I made walnut rum sandwich cookies that were time consuming but pretty. The recipe called for rum extract; it was so over powering that no one would eat them. I threw the entire batch away. I think the cookbook had some ingredient measurement errors!

Oil Pie Crust
Following the directions exactly, it worked perfectly. You MUST sift the flour.

Proper English Cottage Pie
Tasty pie! My 9 inch pie pan was a little small, so there was a bit of over flow. Luckily, a cookie sheet caught most of the mess. I cut in half the amount of butter, and it still tasted great.

Turkey and Quinoa Meatloaf
Really tasty. Had a hard time forming the loaf. It wouldn't stay together when I shaped it. Added 1 extra egg and approximately 1 1/2 cups of Italian breadcrumbs. It came out of the oven, perfectly moist and didn't fall apart when it was cut. I'll try again without the breadcrumbs next time since it gets placed in foil.
