With several health concerns, I've decided that one step to regaining my health is to change my eating habits. I have an allergy to animal products (dairy, goat milk, etc.) and am unable to digest meat well, so I figured one of the ways I can help myself is to eliminate them both from my… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a full time university student who loves the simple things in life. Good food, good company, and good entertainment. I'm easy to please, and easily entertained as well!
My favorite things to cook
My favourite things to cook are Asian dishes. I also like making my own pasta sauces, and even made a tomato-based sauce that was sweet. I just like experimenting in general!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family cooks, and cooks, and cooks. I grew up learning that food is company's best friend, and so food was always available to offer to guests. For birthdays we make a Chocolate cake that has a secret ingredient that is always a hit. Kielbasa is also a staple 'comfort' food, always served with vinegar.
My cooking triumphs
When my older brother developed an allergy to soy products, I helped adapt many recipes to become soy-free so he could eat them. It was a lot harder than I first thought it would be - especially the more I discovered how many products have some type of soy in them!
My cooking tragedies
My most memorable cooking experience has to be the first time I made apple pie. The instructor said to add 'as much brown sugar as you want.' I took that a bit too literally (horrid sweet tooth, I admit!) and ended up making what is now called "Apple Soup in a Pie Crust."

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations
Super simple and great to play with! I used it as the base for a lemon-poppyseed cake and it turned out divine! Best part is you can sift together the dry ingredients and then store them for later use. It's my own easy, convenient cake mix, without the fear of soy or dairy lurking within the batter.

Pesto Cream Sauce
Wow! This blew me out of the water! I didn't use shrimp or tomatoes, but I bet it would taste fantastic with them! I couldn't find plain romano cheese anywhere, so I had a three-cheese blend with some in it instead, but next time I'm hunting some down to see if it changes the taste. But all I can say is YUM! I'm definitely making this again. I did notice, however, that I had much more sauce than I did noodles. I ended up having to make more pasta to use the remaining sauce. However, this isn't enough to make me drop a star, just a note for next time!

Really Creamy Fettuccine Alfredo
The taste of cream cheese was quite overwhelming. It was not the flavour I was expecting. However, it is one I will probably play with until I find a nice balance of flavour. I had to add more milk at the end of cooking, as it was too thick to mix with the pasta. I also omitted the nutmeg, in part because I did not have any on hand and because it didn't seem appealing with garlic in the recipe.
