About this Cook
I started cooking when I was 12. I didn't start having a love for it until after highschool. Now, I love to play with different foods. I'm still trying new ones everday. I'm married to my wonderful husband Michael. He's in the Army. I have a brother and two wonderful parents. I'm having so much fun coming up with new recipes for my soon to be growing family.
My favorite things to cook
I love chicken and I love red peppers. I like making lots of different kinds of salads. Stir fry is the easiest thing in the world for me to make. I love stirfry a lot!!! I really like cheese cake in all forms. My favorite thing to make and eat is anything Italian. I can't get enough of pastas and breadsticks!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad loves to smoke meats and my mom loves to make pancakes. We were pretty traditional in southern cooking. I grew up on meat and potatos. I still love all those things, but I'm loving being married to my husband and him showing me his Mexican heritage. So I'm starting to love all those foods, plus, the foods he's found in the other countries.
My cooking triumphs
Making Horchata was a big triumph for me because the first couple of times I made it, it turned out mushy. When I reduced the rice and added milk, I got all excited. The very first thing I made that was so good was a crab ragoon. My mom and I ate them for weeks!
My cooking tragedies
Like any kid, I was pretty good at burning grilled cheese. I have botched corn bread before, and the last thing I did was try to heat up oil on a new stove and it just started smoking everywhere. I look at it this way, if you keep trying, you will get better. People are going to make mistakes the first time they cook something, but the more you make it, the better it will get!
