About this Cook
I've been working in Nantucket's restaurant scene for about a dozen years. I first started at an Italian restaurant when I was 14, where I developed a love for Italian food and family-style dining. I also had the pleasure of learning from an AMAZING Thai chef at a restaurant a few years ago. I've got pretty varied tastes in food, and I'm always willing to try something new, weird, and different.
My favorite things to cook
Eggplant Parmesan, anything to do with fish, anything Italian, and Thai Food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving was always a huge holiday. My grandfather has an amazing stuffing recipe that involves chestnuts. Also, my grandparents on my father's side were always cooking up a storm on the Jewish holidays, so I have a soft spot for motzah ball soup, gefilte fish, and lox on a good NY bagel.
My cooking triumphs
Eggplant parm. It's how I won over Jason when we first met. Showing off my mad cooking skills with a convection microwave oven and an induction cooktop in my old apartment. Not bad.
My cooking tragedies
I made vegan macaroni and cheese one time and it was terrible. I do appreciate vegetarian cooking, I was a pescetarian (i.e. fish was the only meat that I'd eat) for about three years and I was always on a quest for a good vegetarian and vegan recipe. But somehow I botched this one up, wayyyyyy too salty. I'll never forget it.

Baked Fish with Shrimp
Easy recipe. I'd add a little bit of lemon or lime juice. Not sure if it's 100% appropriate for red snapper but we both enjoyed it.

Donut Muffins
So yummy. I messed up in the end and mixed the butter with the cinnamon and sugar for the topping, but I dipped them in that and then another round of the dry cinnamon and sugar mixture. Delish!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread
Oh. My. Goodness. AMAZING. I've always stood by my mom's banana bread recipe but this one takes the cake (and tastes better than cake!) I added an extra banana because I had one more going. And I made 2 loaves so I had to bake it for an extra 20 mins and lowered to 325* (60 mins for 2 loaves it was still not cooked in the middle). Really wonderful recipe!
