Kielbasa with Peppers and Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2006
I made this but added onions too(based on the S.O.P.P recipe alson on this site) and while it was good, it needs more seasoning as others have mentioned. Not bad though....

S.O.P.P.

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2006
This wasn't bad, just missing some seasoning. Next time, I'll probably season the veggies before adding the kielbasi. I used hot links, which added nice flavor. I'd probably make again, but would just season more with some garlic, etc.

Mock Champagne

Reviewed: May 23, 2006
I made this exactly as presented for my daughter's first communion brunch. It went over well with the adults as well as the children. As recommended by another reviewer, I made an ice ring in my bundt pan out of an additional 1-liter of ginger ale & apackage of fresh raspberries to keep the punch cold. I liked this better than "regular" punches with sherbert floating in them. It has a nice light, crisp taste.

Carrot Cake Muffins with Cinnamon Glaze

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
I made mini muffins....they are great! I put the coconut into the blender to shred it more (I don't like long pieces of coconut!). Had these at our egg hunt today, and all the kids liked them. Even the ones who didn't like carrots or pineapple or coconut! My glaze was a bit runny, so I applied it with a pastry brush. Definitely a keeper!

Texas Christmas Pickles

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2006
I was afraid to make these so I used a 1/2 gallon of pickles. I sliced them into spears. They sort of shriveled up and look funny....is that right? They are tasty, just weird looking. I will try them again, but want to try slices instead of spears. A nice sweet/spicy flavor. Very nice.

Potato Casserole II

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2006
OH yeah....this is good. I omitted the butter (couldn't see how it would improve the already fat-laden dish) and I don't think it was missed. This isn't something I'd make often, but it sure would make a great company dish.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2005
I've had this in my recipe box for 2 years and FINALLY made it yesterday...it was DEE-LISH!!! I omitted the cheddar cheese completely, but the rest was exactly the same. Didn't use the crockpot...microwaved at 40 percent power for about 20 minutes --stirring half way. I served with wheat thins and celery sticks. I didn't think i'd like the celery, but it turned out to be great. The crunchy with the hot/creamy dip was awesome!

Holy Smoked Bacon and Mushroom Penne

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2005
This was a nice quick meal. I cooked the pasta, then the bacon/shroom/garlic/(and I added) onion mixture. To that I added 2 cups broth. I combined 2 Tbs of cornstarch in a 1/2 cup white wine and added that. When thickened, toss with the pasta. Nothing came out soggy for me. Seasoned with S&P and parmesan. Delish!

Chicken Lasagna with White Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2005
Even with the suggestions to add garlic, onion and mushrooms, we found this to be quite bland, but not runny. It was by no means bad, but just "eh."

Texas Ranch Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2005
This was a nice change from regular mayo potato salads. I would actually give it 3-3/4 stars. It's not quite a 4, but definitely more than a 3.

Cajun Style Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2005
These were ok, not bad though, a change from the ordinary. I did like the BBQ sauce and will use that again on a regular burger . I did leave out the green onions as I didn't want any "crunch" factor.

Broccoli and Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2005
This was good, but way too sweet for us. I used 1/4 sugar to 3/4 mayo and a good 2 Tbs. of vinegar. With the sweetness of the raisens, it was still just too much sweetness. I would probably try it again, but with even a bit less sugar and a bit more vinegar. It is a very cool combination of ingredients. It's got it all -- protein, veggie, starch....

Swedish Meatballs I

Reviewed: May 26, 2005
This is a nice "convenience" meal. The meatballs were the most time consuming, but the sauce whipped up in seconds (open a few cans, and you're good to go). I doubled the recipe, but used only 3 cans of "cream of" soups instead of 4 and the sauce was just right. I used 1 can each of cream of celery, cream of chicken, and golden mushroom. The whole family (including picky 7 year old) enjoyed this.

Macaroon Cookie Bars

Reviewed: May 14, 2005
While these do taste good, I found the cake layer to be a bit dry. It does hold its shape nice after cutting and presents well, but I guess I prefer my other recipe using a brownie for the base (bit moister).

Slow Cooker Barbeque

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2005
I've had this sitting in my recipe box, untried, for almost two years!!! Finally, yesterday I used london broil (GREAT sale price)this weekend and it was delicious. I cooked it for about 8 hours and then we decided to go out for pizza (never turn down a meal out!!). So, I shredded the beef, put it into a rubbermaid container, and reheated it tonight for dinner. Served on nice sub rolls with sliced swiss cheese along with a greek pasta salad and we all enjoyed it.

Pizza Casserole

With the high ratings received, I expected more from this. While it wasn't at all bad, it just wasn't as good as I thought it would be.

Cinnamon Coffee Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2005
I agree that 1/3 cup milk is too much. After making a single batch, I knew it wouldn't be enough to frost/fill my double layer cake, so I ended up doubling all ingredients (except milk and sugar). I used just 2-3 Tbs. of milk and increased the sugar to 4 cups. Definitely a keeper.....

Black Magic Cake

This is a great cake -- moist and tasty. It rose beautifully. No one believed that it was from scratch (and that IS a complement!). Very nice with the Coffee Cinnamon Frosting.

Baked Pineapple Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2005
This was GREAT! Instead of bread slices, I used 2 leftover hamburger buns. I served it with a pork roast and it was a nice complementary dish. I've already been asked to make it for Easter!
