I'm about to be 40, and excited about that. I have 3 teenagers, and a wonderful husband. I learned to cook because he made a deal with me, if I learned to cook he would do the dishes every time I made a meal. I went out and bought my 1st cookbook the next day and taught myself 1 recipe at a time. He kept his end up til the kids were old enough to help, now they all take turns and I haven't done dishes in over 16 years!!!
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking everything! trying a new recipe is always fun, I always try something new on my days off, I love dishes that involve a lot of slicing ,dicing, chopping, and tossing in. I do it all by hand, it relaxes me and I feel a real sense of accomplishment when it turns out and my family really enjoys it. Getting ready for college, my oldest is only worried she'll starve to death cause the food available won't be as good as what she's used too!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Birthdays, Everyone gets to choose whatever they want for thier B-Day dinner. In or out, favorite dessert, whatever. My family would rather I prepare something than going out to a favorite restaurant. My stepmother started that tradition and I've carried it over to my family, they love it.
My cooking triumphs
My first Thanksgiving dinner. Duplicating my grandmothers Christmas cookies. Watching my kids as toddlers dive in to a meal I prepared and not stopping to say"eeww, what is THAT?"
My cooking tragedies
Curried Pea Salad, Yuck!!!
