The Best Bean and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
This is an excellent recipe. I didn't use the ham bone but I did use a ham that was salt cured for a year and didn't remove the fat. With all the curing the fat really dissolves easily and gives a fantastic flavor to the soup. Next year for our holiday ham I will order the bone-in ham to be able to use the ham bone as well.

This is a really good recipe and super easy but not something that is a wow. Great to make and yummy when you don't have a lot of time.

Glazed Yeast Doughnuts

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2007
These didn't rise much at all and are pretty bland. The glaze is just sugar rather than having a flavor and needs vanilla or something. They had a cakelike texture which is not what I was going for. If you like cake doughnuts and put a good frosting or glaze on these they would be fine. If you are looking for a glazed doughnut like you can get at your local doughnut shop, this is definitely not the recipe for you.

Roquefort Pear Salad

I made this for the first time and took it to a party. There was not one bit of it left and everyone asked for the recipe. This was excellent!!!

Bonnie's Fruit Dip

Reviewed: May 19, 2003
This was delicious and a big hit with my Bunko group. I thought the strawberries would go fast, but the apples were the favorite of all the fruits I put out for dipping. I will definitely make this again.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: May 19, 2003
This was such a hit. Next time I'll use the smaller size tortillas to make the chips a little smaller. I used blackberries instead of raspberries and then used raspberry preserves. What a wonderful appetizer!! My kids loved the cinnamon chips alone too.

Pork Chops a la Slow Cooker

Reviewed: May 19, 2003
The pork chops were wonderfully tender, but the recipe needed some pepper and even a little onion in my opinion. With those things added, this would be much better.

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

This was a big hit with my Bunko group! My family loves it also. My kids hate onions, so I substituted onion powder to keep some of the flavor.

Honey Mustard BBQ Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2003
I used a whole grain dijon mustard and I liked the texture and appearance. I let the chops marinade for about 10 hours. I'll let them go overnight next time. I made these on a cold and windy day, so I put them in the broiler, turned them once for a total cook time of about 15 minutes or until the meat was not pink. My family thought this one was a definite WOW!

Applesauce Bars

Very good, moist and really a pretty light dessert if you go easy on the icing or opt for the confectioner's sugar instead of icing.

Carnation® Mashed Potatoes

Very smooth and creamy, although I did not put as much milk in as the recipe called for. I doubled the potatoes and used a 12 oz can of fat free evaporated milk.

Fantastic Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2002
This was pretty bland and I had to add a lot of spices to it. I think that the texture of the black beans is what my family really didn't like about this recipe. Sorry, but this one is not a keeper.

Corn and Chicken Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2002
This was very good, but I added more pepper and I went too low on the sodium since I bought a healthy ham, low sodium broth and didn't add the salt. I won't do that next time and I think this will be even better.

Asparagus Oregenato

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2002
My family doesn't care for asparagus, but I love it. They ate this without any complaints and even had some good things to say. I loved it!! I cut back on the amount of bread crumbs and used a fat free butter spray to reduce the fat and calories. Will definitely make this one again.

Shredded Beef for Tacos

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2002
This was so good and so easy. When I pulled the roast out to shred it, I left some of the meat out of the sauce and let my kids put that in their tacos. I put the rest of it back into the crock pot with all the juices and my husband and I scooped out meat along with the spices and it was so good.
