I'm surrounded by food and craziness all day in the restaurant I work in. Why would I want to do it at home too? I LOVE IT! Cooking is my outlet. I'm one of those people that looks for the skinny in the room and shoves bites of pasta at them yelling "Try this!" I also read like a fiend. If I'm waiting for something to set or to come out of the oven I'm usually leaning against the counter reading my Nook. To me nothing says RELAX like a good book, wine and pasta (you know, the kind with no calories or carbs...I WISH! lol) Happy Cooking Folks!
My favorite things to cook
I'm the queen of appetizers and Italian around here. My boyfriend loves to tell everyone he was 50 lbs lighter when we met but he just HAD to go home with the Italian girl. I generally cook heavy in the fall and winter (stroganoff, pot roast, parmagiana, scratch soups ect.) and lighter in summer (cold salads, finger foods, ceviche, BBQ baked beans ect.)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday season cooking is the best! We make a trip to San Francisco the day before Christmas eve and buy a bunch of seafood then haul it back to Stockton in an ice chest. Christmas eve day we argue over whether to make the seven fishes in seven different styles or to just make cioppino. I never forget the Boudin Sourdough bread to dip in the tomato broth. Delicious!
My cooking triumphs
There's been a few catering events I've done that we pulled together at the last minute. I'm uber proud of my boyfriends great grandmother's birthday party where I put together appetizers of 200 people.
My cooking tragedies
I have to admit I'm not the best baker in the world. I'm not a measuring, scientific reaction kind of cook. So the first time I tried to make oatmeal scotties they turned out as little flat melted discs on the cookie sheet. Needless to say the boyfriend didn't gain any of his extra 50 lbs. from them.
