My husband and I live in Petaluma located in Sonoma County. Petaluma is known for eggs, agriculture, and American Graffiti. It's maintained that old town feel and the people are extremely friendly. We moved here a little over three years ago and are amazed an how much this town has to offer. While we live in the heart of wine country, we liken ourselves to beer-aficionados and are fortunate to have several distinguished breweries located near us including Lagunitas, Iron Springs Brewery, Russian River Brewery, Pyramid, Moylands, Hopmonk, and Bear Republic to name a few. I work in San Francisco for a trial consulting firm and my husband is a bartender at Iron Springs Brewery located in Fairfax.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making casseroles, soups, seafood dishes, and ethnic foods with lots of spices. We like to go out in the Pacific to fish for salmon, rockfish, tuna, and my favorite, dungeoness crab. I enjoy sharing my cooking with family and friends, thus I tend to make larger scale dishes. I've also noticed as I get older, my tasting palate desires more flavors. I like to have leftovers for the work week so in general we enjoy dishes where the flavor improves over a couple of days.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking with my mom over the Christmas holiday gives me the greatest pleasure. We share baked breads, muffins, cookies, and jams we've made over the summer with family and friends.
My cooking triumphs
I think my greatest accomplishments in the kitchen are making complex dishes that combine several ingredients - spices in particular. I like the dishes that take all day to prepare. That being said, I make a mean paella and gumbo.
