Chicken David

Reviewed: Apr. 5, 2013
I loved this, and so did my dad whose name happens to be David! :) I cooked the chicken first and then added the vegetables like another reviewer suggested, and I sort of eyeballed it with the salami and prosciutto. I attempted to pound out our extremely thick chicken breasts but it still took a little longer than I thought for them to cook all the way through. But that's ok. :) I got lazy and didn't add the parsley or butter at the end.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2013
Tasted really good. Frosted with chocolate cream frosting like another reviewer did. I didn't have buttermilk so I substituted 1 cup milk with a tablespoon of white vinegar. Let sit for about five minutes so it can curdle and you're good.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2013
Pretty yummy! I didn't boil it like the recipe says to, but it thickened up quite nicely despite this. Just make sure that all the dry ingredients are completely stirred into the milk before you turn the heat on or else it will all burn to the bottom of the pan. Rookie cook's mistake I guess. :)

Spaetzle and Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2012
I actually cheated a lot and made the herbed dumplings from this site instead of the spaetzle. :P The five stars is for the soup itself, which was phenomenal! I used a package of chicken thighs with bones (skin on) and boiled them with the vegetables and seasonings for about an hour. Then I picked all the meat off the bones (and gave some to my dogs, which they loved) and strained the broth. Put the meat and broth back in, and made up the dumplings. Tasted awesome. :)

Sofrito

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2012
Nena, my mom is a real, 100% Puerto Rican born and raised on the island. She uses green bell peppers, a whole head of garlic, one onion, and one bunch of CILANTRO and not culantro, because we can't find it here in Central Illinois. Everyone has their own way of making sofrito. Just use what you can find, and if you can't find all the stuff in this recipe, try my mom's way and your food'll taste just as good. :) Add sofrito to any ground meat that you're cooking along with some teriyaki sauce and adobo criollo seasoning if you can find it (look in a hispanic grocery store).

Karen's Baked Banana Stuffed French Toast

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2012
Awesome. Great with real maple syrup. I cut the recipe down to just make enough for myself by taking 1/4 cup milk, 1 egg, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, but I keep the 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and add I added 1 teaspoon brown sugar (not packed). :)

Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2012
These were awesome! Like some of the other reviewers, I added a couple of cloves of garlic. And I added the cheese to the milk/butter mixture. I served these with feta turkey burgers, and my brother said it was the best food he'd eaten in days. Much better than the army's. :)

This is just how our exchange student from Spain's mom would make these. :)

Honey Wheat Bread I

The bread is awesome! The only thing I change is that I use butter instead of the shortening. :)

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
Awesome recipe! The only thing I added was a couple cloves of garlic. As another reviewer suggested, I took out 1/4 cup of the cream mixture and mixed it with the egg yolk before dumping it all back together.

Gnocchi I

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
This was a pretty good recipe. I think that when you boil the potatoes you should boil them for longer than just fifteen minutes. They were still really hard and I had to microwave them to get them to soften up. I made this with grilled chicken and alfredo sauce.
