About this Cook
My name is Elly and truthfully, I've never been that great in the kitchen. Ask anyone in my family and they'll tell you how I ruined three boxes (yeah that's right, boxes) of mac n' cheese in a row. So, now I'm on a mission to prove to them that I can cook just as well as they can if I put my mind to it. Currently I am a college student at UCSC and an artist in my free time.
My favorite things to cook
My absolute favorite thing in the whole world to make and consume is banana bread, or more fondly 'Nanner Bread.' Yum yum yum!!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Tuna noodle casserole. Coming from a family that has strong ties to the mid-west, I grew up on a steady diet of casseroles, meat, and potatoes.
My cooking triumphs
.....
My cooking tragedies
Please refer to the mac n' cheese story mentioned earlier.

Goat Cheese and Spinach Turkey Burgers
Ok, so, heres the story. I couldn't find goat cheese... anywhere. So I substituted blue cheese and it turned out delicious! I only made one patty so the measurements were probably a little off. I also made these changes: Like mentioned earlier, the blue cheese instead of goat cheese, a handful of fast cooking oats, and just a pinch of bread crumbs. Also, I cooked this on the stove with some olive oil on medium high heat. Served over nut bread toast with some ketchup, this recipe is definitely a keeper!!!

Black Bean, Corn and Turkey Chili
This was very good, but with some improvements. Deciding to veto the salsa I added in half of a large onion, two cans of diced tomatoes (which didn't quite do it for me so I also included a couple of tablespoons of tomato paste), and added extra chili powder, about three tablespoons total. I also did not add any sugar and cooked it all together in a crock-pot. With the extra chili powder it was very spicy so salt was definitely necessary. A very tasty chili, great for cold nights! The corn and black beans added a great texture and lighter taste to balance the sharper spices in the chili. Would definitely recommend!!!

Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Smoothie
Such an interesting texture. I've never tried a smoothie with oats in it before and I feel like I've missed out. I didn't use any vanilla or sugar and instead added some honey, which I prefer. Also, I used other user's suggestions and pre-blended the oats. Thanks!
