About this Cook
I am a retired church secretary but still very involved in church work. I love to make new recipes to take to church potluck dinners. I always give this site credit when I get compliments on my dishes.
My favorite things to cook
I love making pies and cakes. I also like to make main dishes that can be divided into single serving portions and frozen for quick meals.
My cooking triumphs
My Church has a Cook Off Contest for fun a few times a year and I won first place for Barbecue Beef Brisket.
My cooking tragedies
I would have to say the worst experince I had was trying to cook pasta in the microwave when my range wasn't working. It turned out so starchy it was like putting Elmers Glue in you mouth. We took one bite and decided to go to a restaurant that night for supper.

German Chocolate Cake Frosting II
The only thing I changed on this recipe was to use butter in place of margarine as I didn't have margarine. It turned out perfect. The secret to making this icing is patience. It took 30 minutes to cook not 15 as recipe says but was well worth it. Remember it will thicken some as it cools. I let it cool slightly before putting it on the cake. I definitely will be making this again.

Chocolate Pinwheel Cookies
I'm giving this 2 stars only because the flavor was good. Rolling out the dough was difficult. The vanilla seem ok but the chocolate was to dry. I followed the recipe exactly. When I tried to slice the cookies they crumbled apart. I salvaged the cookie by placing mounds of crumbled dough on sheet and pressing it down with a glass. They looked strange but tasted good. I am looking for a different pinwheel recipe.

Amazing Pecan Coffee Cake
I have made this twice to take to church functions and got rave reviews each time. The only changes that I made was to double the topping. I put half of the batter into a greased and floured pan, sprinkled half the topping on, dolloped the remaining batter on then gently spread out and sprinkled the remaining topping on. I did cut the sugar in the cake by 1/2 cup because of adding the topping in the middle.
