Cream Corn Like No Other

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
I must say, I didn't like creamed corn before trying this recipe. I had only had it from a can and couldn't get my palate to warm up to mushy corn goo. However, my family loves creamed corn...even the canned kind. Or at least they USED to like the canned kind. Now, I've been told to never buy it again, but instead to make this great recipe. The only change I made was to halve the sugar. Great recipe!

Balsamic Mushrooms

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2006
These were actually pretty good. The only thing I changed was to only use 1 1/2 Tbsp. balsamic to cut the tang that some reviewers complained about. Other than that, perfect.

G-ma's Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2006
I gave this a 3 because I'm actually not really sure what to rate it. It's a good idea...it's the way my hubby said his abuela used to make rice. However, he said it's supposed to be fluffy and this definitely didn't come out fluffy. The flavor is right where it's supposed to be. It's not supposed to have an overwhelming flavor, I guess. This isn't spanish rice. However, I'm looking for a way to make it fluffy...any suggestions?

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2006
This is one of those dishes where you can really add what you like or have on hand. It's a great base to start with...my family loves orzo. Will make this in several variations again and again.

Garlic Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2006
I'm giving this 2 stars because my family did not care for the taste at all. It was a good idea, it just wasn't for us. Something about the green beans and the parm didn't work well together. Oh well, you can't like them all!

Easy Caramelized Onion Pork Chops

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2006
We were not pleased with this recipe at all. The pork ended up tough and salty...I don't know what I was thinking even trying this...it's basically boiled pork chops! The onions were not caramelized...they were boiled! Will not even attempt to make this with changes. Sorry.

Chicken Eileen

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2006
This was actually really good...it wasn't exactly pretty, but it made up for it in taste. The only change I made was to use provolone instead of mozzarella.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2006
This was pretty good. I added some diced tomatoes with green chiles, used V-8 in place of plain tomato juice, brown sugar instead of white, and added jarred mushrooms. Next time I will play with the chili powder amount a bit, as it was a bit spicy for my taste. Overall, really good!

Sloppy Joes II

My family loved this recipe. I added some extra garlic, but kept everything else about the same. Tastes almost like Manwich!

Mom's Baked Beans I

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2006
These were really good baked beans. The second time (and every time since) that I made these, I added about 1/4 c. yellow mustard, 1/4 c. brown sugar, and some garlic powder. Hubby loves it this way!

Cauliflower Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
This was pretty good. I only used 1/3 cup of bread crumbs as suggested by someone else and left out the red pepper because my family doesn't care for it. It was a pretty good recipe, but not something I will make often, if ever, again.

Modenese Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
I changed one thing in this recipe...used apple juice instead of wine because my family doesn't like the flavor of cooked wine. That one small change, but this recipe was perfect!!! Moist, juicy, delicious pork chops.

Red Potato Salad with Sour Cream and Chives

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
I agree with several other posters. This is really rather bland. I had to add so many things to this to get my family to eat it, that it created an entirely new recipe. Thanks for the base, but I certainly wouldn't leave it as-is.

Lemon Dijon Wings

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2006
Wow! I used half dijon mustard, half spicy mustard, and only 1 tsp. of black pepper. Let them marinate overnight and then grilled them. They were excellent and completely devoured! *Update* After making this several times on chicken, hubby requested it on pork. It was awesome!

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
I changed this a little, so I held back a star. I'm pregnant and was craving veggies with dip, but didn't want to feed my unborn MSG. Glad I found this recipe. After a few changes, it was perfect. I used 1/2 c. mayo, 3/4 c. sour cream, 1/4 c. buttermilk, and a little extra garlic powder. Definitely curbed my craving. It was awesome.

Italian Restaurant-Style Salad Dressing II

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
I held back a star just because without a little sugar, this is really tart. After adding about 2 Tbsp., though, it was perfect. My family loved it.

Mijo's Slow Cooker Shredded Beef

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
My hubby is Mexican-American and I was looking to make something comforting for him for Father's Day. I found this recipe and decided to give it a try. I cut back on the pepper sauce, used Pepsi instead of beer, and added a can of diced green chiles instead of jalapenos. Served it with warm flour tortillas, fried potatoes, refried beans, and other burrito fixings. He ate 2 LARGE burritos and took 2 more for his lunch today. I will definitely be making this for him again.

Lemon Meringue Pie III

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2006
I was pretty impressed with this recipe. I had never made a lemon meringue pie before but hubby wanted one, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I left out the zest just because I didn't think we would like the texture it added to the filling. Other than that, kept everything in the filling the same. I didn't use this meringue recipe though. That's why I held back a star. I used the recipe Meringue II from this site simply because of the issues other's raised about this meringue. I didn't have any problems with that one. So, I recommend this filling with that meringue.

Lemonade Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2006
I knew I was taking a chance when I tried this recipe, but I had to. Boy, am I glad I did. My husband went nuts over it. The only change I made was to use pork steaks instead of chops because that's what I had. For the sake of my marriage, I will be making these again and again.
