I learned to cook in Rio de Janerio, Brazil where I lived for some 5 years. A neighbor (a restaurant owner) asked my to help his son speak English better, and I asked him if I could work in his kitchen. I eventually was "promoted" to "seafood chef" - I later opened a restaurant in Pennsylvania when I returned to the USA
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook seafood - especially Chilean Sea Bass - also Scallops - Meat specialities include pork ribs - pork loin - rack of lamb
My favorite family cooking traditions
A "wild game meal" for sons' birthdays - we have had rattlesnake - boar - piranha - elk - hammerhead shark in the past!
My cooking triumphs
Having the President of Brazil send his "compliments to the chef" back into the kitchen.
My cooking tragedies
Telling our "maid" in our apt. in Rio that she needed to add some egg to her meatloaf - we had guests for dinner - she had put a whole egg (shell and all) into the meatloaf mix before baking - (before I learned to speak Portuguese)!
