Brown Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2012
The family loved these. It does take longer than 5 mins to brown this amount of butter....but it's well worth the outcome. They are chewy and delicious, albeit a little too sweet with the frosting. I made some without frosting for my hubby who prefers them that way. They are good even unfrosted.

Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
The flavor is good, but it is too thin and watery to stick to the chicken well. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. But it didn't serve well from my crock pot at the party I brought them too. They were swimming in the juice. I had to double the recipe bc I needed a large amount, and I made it with drumstick pieces. Juicy but in the future I would remove from the crock pot and serve them on a platter.

Swiss Cashew Tossed Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2008
This salad is so very yummy, but not one of those "healthy" salads I would say. I use cheddar cheese sometimes too, some of my family doesn't like swiss. Either way, it is a hit when brought anywhere.

Dessert Crepes

Reviewed: Mar. 29, 2008
This makes a perfect crepe recipe, and PLENTY for a 4 person family. We like to try all different stuff in it...like bananas and nutelly with whipping cream, honey, jams, etc. Just a fun and delicious treat for breakfast. My kids love them. I sometimes add vanilla to the mix if we are doing sweet toppings.

Penuche Sugar Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2007
This fudge came out so bad I had to throw the whole batch in the trash. It was still sugar/gritty after letting it cook to the right temp. Even the flavor was not that great, and it requires way too many nuts!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
These did not come out chewy for some reason. Disappointing...will keep looking. The reviews looked promising, but I like my snickerdoodles chewy.

Tortellini Soup I

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
This is DELICIOUS! I made this for several different groups of people, women groups, family groups, couples groups...everyone raves about this soup. The only ones that don't like it seem to be little kids. I have made this with or without the wine, and it doesn't seem to matter. Great soup with tons of flavor. It's hearty, filling, and satisfying as a winter meal with some crusty bread along side it. I only left out the peppers, didn't miss them.

Broiled Herb Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2005
I made this chicken almost exactly as the recipe says, just added dry onion flakes and a little salt to the buttery mix. I found this very tasty, and easy, and fast! My kids 4&6 said they really liked it too! I would make it again, it is something different to do with chicken. I made little slits in the chicken breasts to stuff the buttery mix into, otherwise it doesn't stay on top too well. That also helps it cook quicker. It dosesn't say in the recipe to broil on high or low (my oven has 2 broiler modes) I chose high, and that worked right. It was tender and had plenty of flavor. I gave it a 4 star rating because it calls for so much butter. This is not low cholesterol/fat chicken! But Yum nonetheless.

Oven Fried Chicken IV

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2005
This was just so so. My kids wouldn't eat the "crunchy stuff". The meat was very tender, and the flavor was fine, but I also didn't use nearly the amount of rosemary...I cut the recipe to 5 servings, and it still asked for 2 TB of rosemary and 1 TB and 2 Tsp of Garlic!!! That is just way too much for me. It was also very messy to dip chicken in the sour cream and than into the crumbs, I had to wash my fingers after each piece. I didn't have corn flakes, so I crushed special k. That was a good substitute. I didn't think that the calories were low at ALL, probably because of the skin on chicken! So you have to be careful if you are cutting calories.

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2004
This was such a delicious cake. I made it for a group of people, that all raved about it. I changed only one thing...I used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet, I liked the change. It is hard to find coffee liqueur, and kind of expensive, but I figure I will be making THIS one again, so I don't mind. Sprinkling with powdered sugar helps the appearance. It looks like a ordinary cake, but tastes much better than it looks. Also is Fantastic with Breyers Vanilla Ice Cream!!! YUM!

Super Duper Zucchini Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2003
I thought these muffins were just okay. I thought they were a bit bland, but I forgot to add the sugar on top, so perhaps that was the problem. I made Abby's Zucchini loaf at the same time, and my kids preferred that over these by a long shot. My son (5), a muffin lover...did not like these. I ate one, and my 2 year old sorta picked at hers, the rest I ended up giving to my husband to take to work. Now, the ladies at the office liked them. I think they are simple and light, with not enough spice. PS:I used butter instead of shortening (only due to the fact that I don't use trans fats). The consistency was still good.

Abby's Super Zucchini Loaf

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2003
My family really likes this zucchini bread. My kids 2&5 eat it up. I have a bumper crop of zucchini right now, and this great bread uses 3 whole zucchinis. However the amount does not make it too zucchini-ish. It is light in texture, and plenty of spice and flavor. It makes 2 loaves. However, this recipe takes a few extra steps...like beating the eggs and sugar an extra 5 mins alone, and extracting the zucchini liquid. That saying this bread takes a little longer to prepare than the usual quick bread. But zucchini bread always is a little more time consuming due to all the shredding (you may want a food processor!). I originally thought that it was going to take a long time to extract the liquid from the zucchini, but it really went pretty fast. I did the zucchini first, and by the time I was done with assembling the other ingredients and stuff, it was ready to put in the colander and use. That in mind, it is a really tasty zucchini bread that is worth the few extra steps. Enjoy...we sure do!

Molasses Bran Muffins

Reviewed: May 30, 2002
This was a very easy bran muffin recipe. It was moist and full of flavor. I did 1/4 cup each of molasses and honey instead of 1/2 c. molasses, just a preference. I also added some ground flaxseed 2TB (which acts like oil in baking) (so 1TB of canola oil was enough). These muffins are very good, and have good flavor. I was a little worried about the batter looking kinda runny at first, but the flakes soak it up pretty fast and they turn out just fine.

Stuffed Pork Chops I

Reviewed: May 8, 2002
The flavor of this recipe is really good. I loved the stuffing on top of the chops. I made this for my inlaws, they really liked it, as did my husband. My kids didn't like it. I thought the porkchops were a bit dry, but I had to use the thin boneless pork loin chops...so I had to cut the time of cooking down...and perhaps I didn't enough? I will try again with thicker chops or chicken. Leftovers were not good. Stuffing got soggy and chops got dry. Good thing there wasn't much leftover.

Ranch Dressing II

Reviewed: May 8, 2002
I liked this recipe, although it was thick, and even with alot of buttermilk, it still remained like a dip, I will add less sour cream and more buttermilk next time. I used all low-fat or fat-free ingredients, and the flavor was still great. I will be adding less dill next time, a bit too dilly for my taste. ;-)

Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2002
I really liked the flavor of these. I added the extra honey as many suggested, but they were still quite crumbly, which is messy with a 3 year old. He helped me make them, they are quite easy. I used mini choc. chips and a bit of coconut...perhaps the coconut made it drier? I will try these again, but leave out the coconut as see what happens. I wrapped them up individually and they stored well in the fridge for quite awhile.

Allie's Delicious Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2002
I don't make this A LOT, b/c it is a high calorie dish. But it is just like the kind of mac&cheese that I grew up with (my mom didn't make the box kind) SO this is what I call a "comfort food" :). We always use hot dogs not ham just our family preference. I recently made this for another family that we were staying with, and she only had colby/jack cheese. It turned out great even with just one kind of cheese. Both families loved it. Make sure you follow the directions and make the roux right. Keep in mind that it does make a lot, but it reheats wonderfully as leftovers, and even freezes/reheats well if you like to make meals in advance.

Aunt Blanche's Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2001
I made these muffins with my 3 year old. They are easy, and quick. He helped do the dumping and mixing, and sprinkled the crumbles on top with a little help :). I didn't use fresh blueberries though (not in season). I actually tried canned blueberries for the first time, and drained the juice first. It worked GREAT. These are truly yummy muffins, and I am kinda a snob when it comes to muffins. I love the crumble topping and moist consistency. They tend to be a bit crumbly the next day...but still yummy! These were a hit with my son and husband and even my 10 month old!! I will never use a boxed mix AGAIN!
