About this Cook
I live overseas with my Marine husband and I enjoy cooking for him after he's had a long day at work or preparing a huge dinner for him the day after he comes home from a deployment (he's never hungry the day he arrives).
My favorite things to cook
Lumpia, baked ham, potato wedges (because they're easy), just about anything in my Breakfast at Brennan's cookbook, and grilled or fried fish.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Well, being part of a Phillipine family, I always make lumpia and pancit for parties. When I go home to visit the family, though, they always roast a pig for us.
My cooking triumphs
I made an amazing Christmas ham in 2009 that I got to share with everyone. I may have prepared a little too much food for the event but I got rave reviews from everyone at the party. Also, when I went to the states to visit my husband's family, I made lumpia. I almost didn't make enough for the party. Even a few people who showed up full took some home with them!
My cooking tragedies
Well, I'm a little new to baking so I've had my share of tragedies there. For instance, I tried the wheat bread recipe to the letter and it came out like a brick. I read further and saw that a few other cooks had problems with this and felt a little better, though.

Classic Whole Wheat Bread
I can't say that I like this much. The bread is very bland and dense. I read a review for this and saw that it probably would've been better to use less flour and a bit of honey but I haven't had the chance to try those suggestions since I just tried this recipe today. This is definitely not a two loaf recipe. I have two small bread pans and neither loaf could fill them. I'll be trying again with the suggestions below but as is, I can't say I like this recipe.
