About this Cook
I am vegetarian and health conscious, try to eat locally, and love to grow my own vegetables and herbs (I want to expand into fruits one day too too :) ). I love baking, and have a giant weakness for Italian food, especially after working on organic Italian farms for several months (as well as in Scotland, Spain, France, and Argentina). I love Asian and other Mediterranean cuisines too. I enjoy experimenting with different alcohols and new vegetables in my dishes, and have recently started canning (jam time!). I LOVE cooking for other people - what a joy to see other people happy with food you've cooked! I'd love to have my own small farm where I produce most of what I'm eating and sharing with family and friends!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother was West Indian, so we grew up eating a lot of West Indian rotis and curries. However, my father was Scottish, so there was always meat pies and liver/onion dishes too! I fell in love with Scottish food while living there, but have become vegetarian. My mothers cooking has changed and become vegetarian, whole-grain, leafy-green and Indian based.
My cooking triumphs
Baking my first batch of cookies solo while no one was home at 11!
My cooking tragedies
My first cooked meal when I started living on my own in university, was a sad, sad stir fry. Too much soya sauce, completely wilted vegetables, and overcooked vermicelli.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread
Great recipe, but as other reviewers mentioned, it's much better to mash the bananas. I also use rock salt and throw in a pinch extra, as I like the crunch in my bread.

Alex's Raw Chocolate Pudding
I haven't even let this set yet, but had to rate it - absolutely fantastic! It is just as creamy as regular pudding, and absolutely delicious. I'm standing here eating it out of the blender. Thanks so much!

Alissa's Vegetarian Lentil Meatloaf
Not a bad recipe! I made a few adjustment: used the whole egg, rather than the yolk, added more spices [oregano, basil, rosemary, garlic powder], replaced the wheat germ with ground flax and brown rice with white, and left out the pepper (due to what was in my kitchen), and it turned out good. I like the texture - something I miss as a vegetarian sometimes! It was hearty and had room for flexibility. And it tasted really good with this amazing BBQ sauce I have. Definitely recommend trying.
