About this Cook
Im 20 years old and Ive been cooking since i was big enough to stand on a chair and see over the counter in my grandmas kitchen. I came from a very country cooking background, as well as knowing how to cook a few game meats with having several hunters in the family. I work in a restaurant, but my favorite cooking is done at home.
My favorite things to cook
I love Mexican and Caribbean flavors, though i tend to be a bit of a food snob when it comes to mexican restaurants. I have a deep love of pork just about any way you can cook it, tho i still have a problem with chitlins.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite traditions are my Granny June's vegetable soup, full of veggies that she and my grandpa canned or pulled right out of their own garden and juicy chunks of beef. My other favorite tradition is my Momaw Beverly's yeast rolls, usually made at the holidays, and leave her entire house smelling like bread.
My cooking triumphs
The best and most popular thing Ive ever made was my honeyed apple pie. Cooking gala apples in a skillet with honey, lemon juice, brown sugar and cinammon, and baked in a homemade piecrust. If i make this for a group, and they get there before dinner is ready, this pie disappears before dinner gets served!
My cooking tragedies
I cannot make bread to save my life. I dont know why, every time I try to make a simple white bread or a batch of rolls, it turns out terrible. even being taught by two grandmothers how to make bread hasnt helped! I just stick to going to the bakery now instead of trying it myself ;).

Grandma's Best Ever Sour Cream Lasagna
this was great! i did change it up some, i left out the olives and i used half sour cream half riccotta, and i also used a bigger can of tomato sauce and increased the amount of spices in the sauce. i put a lot more mozzerella in it when i made it for my brother, but i like the amount in the original recipe. i'll be keeping this one!

Ukrainian Olha's Varenyky (Perogies)
My roommate my first year in college was from a polish family, and her mom made me the first perogies id ever had. This recipe is very good, though it takes a bit of finesse and practice to put the filing in the dumplings the way her mom told me it was supposed to be done. i used mashed potatoes, and i put half bacon fat half butter in the skillet when i sauted them for a bit of extra flavor.

Caribbean Rum Punch
My mom and i went on a cruise several years ago, and after an insane jeep trip over a mountian in St. Lucia, we were given cups of this drink from our tour guide. It's not nearly as strong as the 'rocket fuel' we had there, but the flavor made me feel like we were back on that mountain looking out at the banana plantations and the beach. i used half orange, half pineapple juice, just for our preferences.
