Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
I liked this recipe however, I made the mistake of not making a lattice crust and still pouring the syrup ontop of the pie. It resulted in a sort of candied crust that was still good but, I prefer to have the apples coated in the sweetness rather than the crust. I'd reccomend, if you don't know how or don't want to make a lattice crust, to just pour the sugary mixture ontop of the apples and not the crust. Also, I added 1 tsp of cinnamon, a bit of nutmeg, and vanilla to the sugary mixture. It turned out really good nonetheless and for the first time, the apples were so soft that my fork broke them on command. loved it and thanks!

French Pastry Pie Crust

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
This crust was fantastic! I was a bit shocked to see vinegar listed in the ingredients but,it was fine. The crust came out perfectly crusty and even had a bunch left over for a mini pie. Definitely reccomend it!

French Apple Tart (Tarte de Pommes a la Normande)

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2010
Everbody in my famly LOVED this tart. I thought it was pretty good but my tart didn't come out as brown as the one in the picture. Also, many people commented on this already, but it really was very very greasy. When I took it out of the oven to sprinkly sugar on it, the apples were drenched in the grease....I didn't do anything though and it came out fine after cooling for a bit. Overall, the recipe was easy to follow, the tarte normande looked beautiful, and impressed my family; I give this a thumbs up.

Grilled Mussels with Curry Butter

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2010
Delicious and unique! After reading a bunch of common garlic & white wine recipes, I settled on this one for its originality. It was very colorful and the lime put a bit of a tangy twist. I loved the curry powder. It looked and smelled amazing and the sauce was just perfect for dipping bread in afterwards. I only wish that the mussels themselves carried a bit more flavor from the sauce.

Brazilian White Rice

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2010
This is a great recipe to have just because it is so simple and perfect for beginners, like me, who aren't completely sure how to make rice. My only critique is that the recipe was kind of bland. I'm a big fan of rice with lots of veggies and etc. Overall, I loved the onions and it's great as a compliment to other foods, but if you're looking for something a little more interesting, than this isn't it.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2010
These muffins were pretty tasty. I used canola oil instead of sesame seed oil and i'm not sure if that made a difference but there was a definite oil taste to the muffins. I'd suggest lowering the amount of oil like some other people have been suggesting. Overall they tasted real good. Also, maybe i'm just being stingy, but i had to use 5 bananas to fill 1 1/2 cups and that seemed a bit excessive.

Clams Italiano

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2010
DELICIOUS and a life-saver for me when my dad randomly came home with a bag of clams...and asked ME to cook them. I will definitely save this recipe for the future. Another page on this website told me something essential to cooking clams and that is that you can tell when clams, unlike mussels, are fully cooked when their shells open, and this takes about 4 minutes. I made the mistake of cooking my first dozen clams for 15 minutes, and although they were still good, they were a bit chewy. 4 minutes was perfect and so were my next dozen clams :) thanks!
