Chicken Breasts with Chipotle Green Onion Gravy

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
My family did not enjoy this recipe. I cooked this dish exactly as written. My 13 year old son and 18 year old daughter, both thought it bland. I was confused by this until I realized that neither one likes gravy and had taken very little sauce. The seasoning is in the sauce rather than the chicken. My other 18 year old daughter seemed to like it the best of all of us and she only gave it three stars. My husband truly disliked the flavor of chipotle chili powder in this recipe. And I felt that the chipotle in the chicken broth based sauce just didn't work - it seemed discordant. I have another recipe that used chipotle in a spice rub with garlic, onion and brown sugar. The other spices and sugar seemed to temper the the chipotle and everyone in my family enjoyed that recipe. So, sorry, I just can't recommend this recipe.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

So easy and very good! I have made it several times and everyone loves it! The first time I made it I accidentally put in all the ingredients at once rather than saving the barbecue sauce until then end and it still turned out fine!

Chef John's Minestrone Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2013
Great Recipe! The only changes I made were substituting conventional bacon for pancetta and black beans for the cranberry beans. And I also halved the salt, which I'm glad I did because I didn't miss it. The only additional change I will make next time is to reduce (or maybe eliminate) the Swiss chard. I'm not sure what size bunch Chef John had in mind but the one I bought was way too much. Maybe I'll halve the amount it next time. Nonetheless, my teenage daughters had seconds, my 12 year son had one bowl and left the chard behind and my husband said it needed meat (that's his problem, not the recipes). Served it with French bread and a salad.

Greek Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2012
Good flavorful recipe but way too much onion, as written. I chopped up the artichoke hearts and didn't use all the marinade as dressing. My teenage daughters liked it but were picking out onion. Next time I will use no more than half cup.

Easy Sausage Strata

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2012
Simply easy and very tasty. The only change I made was to halve the salt. With all that sausage and cheese, I didn't think it would need a full tablespoon and it didn't.

BBQ Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
Good Recipe! As many others did, I simplified the recipe by using boneless chicken breasts then throwing all the ingredients in a crock pot and letter them simmer for about six hours. Easy and tasty!

Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2012
Good solid recipe. I followed directions exactly except replacing the fresh tomatoes with a large can of diced tomatoes. This will be a fun recipe to tweak, try different veggies, pasta, etc. I will be making this again.

Sweet and Sour Chicken III

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2012
I did not make any changes to the recipe and found it very bland. My daughter didn't even realize that it was supposed to be sweet and sour until I told her. I am mystified by the great reviews! Perhaps it is because many people alter a recipe then rate their version, rather than the original. In any case, no one in my family (of five) particularly liked this and I will not be making it again.

Super Easy Spinach and Red Pepper Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2012
I love spinach salads but this one didn't do much for me or for anyone in my family. It wasn't bad... it just wasn't particularly good, either. I'm not sure spinach and Parmesan cheese are meant to go together. I will not be making this again.

Smokin' Scovilles Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
Too spicy! The spiciness overpowers the other flavors, which are actually quite interesting. And I substituted a jalapeno for the habanero pepper and left out the pepper sauce completely! When I make this again, I will halve the red pepper flakes and liquid smoke in addition to the other changes I made. By the way, the prep time is far more than 10 minutes

Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
I thought this was mediocre despite all the superlative reviews. I wish people would actually review the recipe as written, not their revisions. It makes the ratings very misleading. In any case, when actually following the recipe as written, the bread crumb coating was soggy and bland and there was not enough olive to dip six breasts in. I would not recommend this.

Blueberry Buckle

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
I was reviewing this recipe because I couldn't find my own blueberry buckle recipe. But when I saw that some people had some issues with this recipe, I looked harder so I could compare the two. Upon finding my own recipe, I discovered the ingredients were identical but I use a nine by nine pan and cook for 45-50 minutes (until a toothpick comes out clean) rather than 30 minutes. I can guarantee that if adjust the pan size and cooking time (and use fresh blueberries) that you can't beat this recipe.

Chili Rubbed Pork Tenderloin With Apricot Ginger Glaze

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2011
Everyone in my family liked this which, with my finicky family, is near remarkable. I had intended on barbequing as the recipe recommended but due to the fact that I unexpectedly had to pick up my daughter I had to simplify the cooking process. I placed the pork in a baking pan, poured the glaze over it and baked it in the oven at 350 for 30 minutes. It came out beautifully and everyone loved it!

Peanut Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2011
As a peanut butter lover, I found this recipe disappointing. I thought there was too much sauce and that it was not terribly flavorful, my husband didn't care for combining the the peanut butter with tomato and onions and my son just thought it was gross! It needs modification but I'm not sure what. I will not make this one again.

Savory Pork Roast

Easy and good. What more could you ask for? I used some olive oil to help the spices stick and added potatoes which picked up the flavor of the spices nicely. This one is a keeper!

Moroccan Tagine

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2010
Very tasty. My finicky family ate it without too much complaint. The only changes I made to the recipe were to add more than a "dash" of cayenne pepper and I removed the chicken from the pan while I was cooking the vegetables so that it wouldn't overcook, then I added it back at the end. Next time I make it, I will cut back on the amount of squash. The recipe called for a small one. I used half a large one but still thought it was rather heavy on squash. But I will definitely make it again. I thought the seasoning was excellent.
