About this Cook
I am a broke, unemployed student with a lot of free time and a very limited budget so I'm always looking for recipes to stretch my groceries. I also have an online store ( and a blog ( to waste my time.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that gives me lots of leftovers, like casseroles. Ultimate favourite would have to be Red Velvet Cake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At Thanksgiving and Christmas, my mom would take care of the bird, my sister did the stuffing from scratch, and I handled the potatoes and Stove Top stuffing. Now, my mom still takes care of the bird and salads, while I do the stuffing from scratch, potatoes, dessert, and cranberry sauce.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I ever made Red Velvet Cake, it turned out absolutely perfectly, even though I stained my mom's wooden spoon red. December 2009, I made a purple birthday cake for my roommate using white cake mix and purple baking wafers and decorated it with more baking wafers. Huge hit!
My cooking tragedies
I've never had any catastrophic failures- I've managed to salvage just about everything, but I've come fairly close to burning down my parent's kitchen and I've ruined a couple of pots/casserole dishes
