I have been in the kitchen with my beautiful mother since I was three years old. I love, love, love cooking and eating. Food is my identity and I believe good food brings love and happiness to peoples lives. I am constantly thinking of new recipes and I am always in the kitchen cooking for my husband and delicious little girl.
My favorite things to cook
Persian food! I like to make foods from all around the world but nothing feeds my soul like a good plate of basmati rice and lamb stew. The aroma of Persian cuisine takes me right back home to grandma's house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking tradition is on Nourouz which is Iranian New Year. My aunt prepares a traditional basmati rice with fresh herbs and serves it flavorful trout. Our entire family gathers in her home to celebrate the New Year and we eat some ridiculously good food!
My cooking triumphs
When I came in 1st Place in the Flayvors of Washington Nationwide Contest. It was the very first cooking contest that I entered and I was one of two people picked to compete in New York City. I came in first place and my competitor took the grand prize. I was super bummed to not take the grand prize home but I learned a huge lesson and that is to read the rules carefully next time:) The best part was Bobby Flay complimenting my food. I really admire him as a chef and that meant a lot to me!
My cooking tragedies
I read somewhere that kiwi is a great tenderizer so I decided to add it to a steak kabob recipe. I ended up marinating the meat for too long and it turned into mush. I was not happy!
