Hello all! I’ve been a bit of a stranger to AR lately, but with spring having “sprung” at my house, I thought it time to share what’s been keeping me away. Besides school (only two weeks until final exams!), I’ve been watching my garden grow! Last year, my sister-in-law and I planted a large… MORE

This Christmas season brought me joy in many ways. Not the least of which were moments shared with friends and family. Though we were without the physical presence of a beloved grandmother, her spirit was with us in the birds she loved to watch on the back deck, in the kitchens filled with… MORE

Hi folks! It’s been a couple of months since my last blog, so I hope there are still a few peeps out there who might read this one. My teaching schedule this semester has been tough, leaving little time for cooking in general, much less experimenting and trying new recipes. However, with the… MORE

This year was my in-laws turn to host the family reunion. The reunion happens every other year and the "sisters" (matriarchs??) take turns hosting. So, over the Labor Day Weekend, we held a two day event at the in-law's farm. DH and I arrived around lunch time on Saturday and the prep began.… MORE

I blame menopause. In the past people used to say that my sister was "Martha Stewart" and I was "Larry the Cable Guy" when it came to home-making endeavors. However, since joining AR a year ago, I've been renamed "Betty Crocker" (she should be rolling over in her grave right about now). This… MORE

Have you ever walked into a kitchen and felt like you were home? A kitchen you’ve never been in before? Filled with friends you’ve never met in person? Well, that is exactly how I felt on July 31st when I arrived at the Midwest Roundup. I parked next to the 5th wheel, grabbed my picnic basket… MORE

No, it's not the start of a bad joke! Yes, it is food related....incredible, delicious, mouth-watering Fusion Food!!!! I must begin by explaining how we made this amazing culinary discovery. You see, twice a year I visit a specialist for maintenance of a chronic illness. This specialist is… MORE

Okay, I promised the story of Wilfred the Tree Frog so here goes. We were visiting my mom and sister which meant food for the women and fire for the men. The Friday we arrived was our brother-in-law’s birthday (42-he’s still younger than me, drat!), so my sister had us over for dinner. The… MORE

Back around the first of May I blogged about becoming my mother's mother. At that time we were dealing with the illness of my 95 year-old grandmother and dealing with how my mom was dealing with it. First, some backstory. Seventeen years ago my grandmother's home was destroyed in an F1… MORE

Summer is definitely here, which means limited income for this part-time teacher. You see, I only get paid while I'm teaching during the spring and fall semesters. So, during the summer, I get to practice my "frugal gourmet" skills:) Most of us cook with a plethora of herbs to flavor our food… MORE

About Me
Forty-something English Teacher with wonderful hubby and four "kids" cats: Tex & Chloe, Dogs: Manny & Angel. My favorite hobby wasn't on the list: Woodworking.
My favorite things to cook
Whatever tickles my fancy! Since joining AR, I've developed a love for bread making and for making unique veggie recipes (brussel's sprout omelets, for example).
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom used to always make fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, and crescent rolls for sunday "dinner". My sister and I would come home from church and the kitchen would be bright and cheery and smell DIVINE.
My cooking triumphs
Creating a meatloaf recipe that made my mother-in-law jealous! Having my Cheddar Biscuits requested by my husband for "food day" at his high school.
My cooking tragedies
I absolutely CANNOT cook with curry...Everthing ends up tasting like a volcanic eruption!
