Peach Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2011
WARNING - The great ratings for this recipe are for a MODIFIED version with CORNSTARCH. With fresh peaches, the original recipe came out of the oven a soupy mess.

Easy Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2011
You could sell these: they look and taste great. One note: the recipe made 35, not 48, with a cookie dough scoop. If you need 48, make them small.

Snickerdoodles V

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
Both times, this recipe had an odd tangy/bitter taste that people noticed. The first time, I thought the cream of tartar was old and replaced it. But it tasted the same with fresh cream of tartar. Snickerdoodles shouldn't taste tangy. It may not be the recipe's fault. I'll try a recipe without cream of tartar next time.

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2010
This took 45 min. to bake in an 8x8 pan w/ the reduced 1 cup of flour. But the brownies were still soft the next morning. And the family LOVED them.

Hillary Clinton's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: May 10, 2009
This is almost identical to the Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie I recipe on this site which gets excellent reviews. The only differences is that this one has vanilla and a slightly different proportion for the sugars. I've used this one for about 12 years and always gotten excellent reviews. I do reduce the salt slightly (maybe 7/8 TSP).

Pumpkin Bread

Oily to the touch and taste. I made two loaves - one for a gift. I'm glad I did a taste test....

Easy Pie Crust

Easier than regular pie crust. Reduce salt to 1/4 TSP.

Strawberry Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2008
I had never heard of strawberry bread until recently and it was a huge family hit. I agree: cut the cinnamon in half. I also added a bag of defrosted, squished strawberries. So moist, so good.

Perfect. Great taste and texture. Works best when dough is rolled about 1/2".

Bread Machine Pumpernickel Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2006
Absolutely the best bread machine recipe I've tried. I do have to add 3TBL for our bread machine.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 22, 2005
Dense and doughy, even with new baking soda. Short on flavor, they were just OK.

Best Bread Machine Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2005
Initially this bread had the moist texture of oven baked bread but was fairly dry the next day (despite being wrapped). The biggest problem was that it fell apart easily - not good for sandwiches. It was also bland; substituting melted butter for oil might be an improvement.

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2005
This had really nice texture. The only thing I'll change in the future is to add 1/4-1/2 cup extra flour for my bread machine.

Waffles I

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2004
This is the first time I've had success with a waffle recipe. I made the healthy substitutions: some wheat flower for white flour, some applesauce for oil, etc. The only thing that I may not do again is substitute Egg Beaters for eggs - the waffles were a little denser than my family liked. But the flavor and ease were great. This recipe is a keeper.

Snow Flakes

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2003
Yuk. At first I found these bland. I omitted the orange but the cinnamon was barely detectable. Then I noticed a sour after taste, probably from the cream cheese. These cookies went to a party and were barely touched. And whoever comments that the dough is dry is right. It was almost impossible to mix in the last 1/2 cup of flour. The dough was hard to crank through the press and hard to separate from the press. In fact, the pattern left a ridge of dough on each cookie. I will not make this recipe again.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2003
The appearance of the filling was unappetizing; the consistency was pasty, and the taste was a little bitter from excess chili.

Apricot Brisket

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2003
Just OK, this lacked seasoning. I added 1 tsp amaretto and 1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce and it was better. But there are better brisket recipes. Also, the fiber from the apricots gave us major indigestion.

Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2003
Maybe it's a matter of preferring crunchy or chewy peanut butter cookies. The dough was too soft to work and I had to put it in the freezer. When it rose, the cross hatch design totally disappeared. It's not a very presentable cookie. And was it chewy. Chewy in a hard way. The flavor was good but given enough peanut butter, any recipe will taste good. I will try other recipes.

German Apple Pancake

Reviewed: May 25, 2003
A huge disappointment. Butter and apples floated up when pouring the batter carefully. The batter rose in the oven and fell when taken out of the oven. The final product has a heavy egg flavor. I'd look for an apple upsidedown cake recipe next time and just use less batter for a pancake effect.
