I started weaning myself off frozen and pre-packaged dinners in my early 40s. Now, after a few years of self-education and practice, I think I'm a pretty good cook. I've made several dishes that I'd have been happy to pay for in a nice restaurant. :)

Lima bean soup with leek and bacon; slow-roasted chicken; linguine with gorgonzola sauce; *spicy* shrimp.
My cooking tragedies
Fish fillets that stuck to the pan and/or lost their breading; an underdone potato gratin; the time I roasted a chicken with EVOO instead of the regular kind and filled my kitchen with smoke!
