About this Cook
I started weaning myself off frozen and pre-packaged dinners in my early 40s. Now, after a few years of self-education and practice, I think I'm a pretty good cook. I've made several dishes that I'd have been happy to pay for in a nice restaurant. :)
My favorite things to cook
Spicy food & comfort food -- and best of all, spicy comfort food!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I wish I could make Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding like my grandfather -- that was a Christmas tradition at his house.
My cooking triumphs
Lima bean soup with leek and bacon; slow-roasted chicken; linguine with gorgonzola sauce; *spicy* shrimp.
My cooking tragedies
Fish fillets that stuck to the pan and/or lost their breading; an underdone potato gratin; the time I roasted a chicken with EVOO instead of the regular kind and filled my kitchen with smoke!

Vegetarian Bibimbap
Bibimbap is one of my favorite foods on the planet but I have never tried to make it at home before. This recipe made it both easy and delicious! I didn't bother to fry the rice -- just served the veggies over some hot, freshly-cooked basmati. A generous squeeze of Sriracha on top of my egg, and I was a very happy camper indeed. I'll definitely make this recipe again.

Sweet Potato Pie VII
I've never made a sweet potato pie before -- actually, I'm not even sure I've ever tasted one -- but this was hands-down one of the BEST pies I've ever made or eaten. Easy to make, too! I used freshly-cooked and mashed sweet potatoes from my farmer's market, and the pie came out out light and fluffy and not-too-sweet, and just...WOW. I may never made a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving again now that I've had this. :)

Linguine Pasta with Shrimp and Tomatoes
I made this recipe as written with the exception of simply cooking the shrimp in the sauce, which worked out just fine. (I also added a little red pepper flakes & Parmesan to the top when it was done for some extra kick.) The fresh tomatoes are really what makes this special -- it's an easy, affordable recipe that takes relatively little time to make, but tastes like it came from my local Italian restaurant. Brava!
