About this Cook
I like to be adventurous when it comes to food, and enjoy learning new techniques.
My favorite things to cook
Home-Style Southern cooking is my favorite! I also dabble in cajun/creole cuisine and my husband and I love to cook out on the grill.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I grew up on traditional southern fare such as fried chicken, pot roast, beans & rice with cornbread, biscuits & gravy, chicken-fried steak, chicken & dumplings, bread pudding, lemon icebox pie, etc.
My cooking triumphs
I have gathered so many good recipes here at allrecipes.com that have helped me broaden my experience with cooking. I have really enjoyed learning new cooking styles that I had not been well-acquainted with before. This site has really helped me keep dinnertime lively & fresh!
My cooking tragedies
See "Italian Cream Layer Cake" in my photo gallery. Was still pretty yummy though! :)

Roasted Vegetables
I made the mistake of using dried herbs and DO NOT recommend it - next time I will use fresh herbs as directed! Still gets 5 stars from me since the error was my own, and it is a lovely dish I will surely make again. Thanks Saundra!

The Best Meatloaf
Pretty good! I like the texture a lot. It held together well and I did not find the raw onions & green peppers overwhelming, as some reviewers have. I think I will experiment a bit with toppings, I used the Heinz 57 and it seemed a little bland. I'm sure that is just a matter of taste, I am more accustomed to the ketchup/brown sugar style toppings with meatloaf. Thanks for sharing your recipe Denelle!

Sausage Egg Casserole
This is a great use-what-you-have recipe! I was looking for a bread-less egg casserole to use up some leftovers I had on hand. I didn't have any breakfast sausage so I subbed ground beef, used cheddar instead of jack, a big dollop of salsa instead of chiles, added some baby spinach & a chopped tomato along with the mushrooms and green onions before adding to the egg/cheese mixture. It came out great. The texture is so light and fluffy! I'm sure it is even better with sausage. I don't think it is lacking anything without the bread, would be great for those cutting carbs! Thanks KNITWIT, love this!
