Cookies – Who doesn't love a great big cookie loaded with decadent gooey chocolate eaten warm right from the oven? Utter deliciousness! Is that a word?

When I was a child the one thing I looked forward to the most were holidays shared with our gigantic family.  At least it seemed like we were a gigantic family – hey, I was just a kid and when you're a kid even little hills seem like giant mountains. Family functions filled with fun, all my cousins and lots of food. Always lots of food. Our moms worked diligently in the kitchen preparing their best dishes to later be shared on the buffet table. And YUM – what a buffet table it was!

I loved sharing these family events with everyone but there was one particular person I always looked forward to seeing and that was my Aunt Jody. I was never close to Aunt Jody but she was my best friend during these family functions! She always brought me such happiness and joy. Excitement filled me when I saw her walk through the door. She always had a special treat just for me – a big yellow 32 cup Tupperware bowl filled with her luscious chocolate chip cookies. Well, OK, not just for me but I wanted to think they were and I would have eaten the whole bowl if I were allowed. Not the actual bowl, silly, but all the delectable treats inside! Now how would a kid know what size bowl that was??? I didn't at the time but I do now because I own one of those bowls myself and whenever I pull it out I think of Aunt Jody's cookies! Now that I think of it I can't really remember what Aunt Jody actually looked like - all I remember is that GIGANTIC YELLOW BOWL! But yes – she was my favorite ;) Her chocolate chip cookies were the bomb. She was so generous when she made them, too. They weren't regular sized cookies. No siree! They had to be almost double the size of a normal cookie and always plump, never flat. Plump chocolate buttery goodness! I was so giddy I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into one of these babies!

Many years later I remember Aunt Jody and want to make chocolate chip cookies just as good as hers. Aunt Jody had shared her recipe and I decided to give it a whirl on my own. I start to gather my ingredients – chocolate chips, flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, eggs, butter. WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!! HOLD THE PHONE!!! What does that say??? I must be mistaken!! BUTTER FLAVORED SHORTENING??? It can't be!! All this time I thought she loved me – OK, loved us – and the whole time she was trying to harm us by feeding us shortening? BUTTER!! It's gotta be BUTTER!! Does she not know that everything tastes better with butter? (I couldn't resist – I just had to throw that line in) I am sure she meant well but nonetheless we were all now in harm's way!

BETRAYED!! I felt betrayed by her – she can no longer be my favorite aunt. Aunt Dorothy who always brought the Spam casserole is now my favorite. She couldn't cook, which doesn't take a genius to figure out. Spam casserole? Come on! But she – now she loved me. Who actually adds butter flavored shortening instead of butter to the best homemade cookies in the whole wide world?

On my quest to find the perfect chocolate chip cookie that wouldn't go flat when baked and that would be crispy on the edges and gooey in the middle and contained BUTTER, I turned to the internet. And lo and behold I found the perfect recipe that gives me the plump gooey chocolatey goodness I was craving. And they are made with the wholesome rich goodness of BUTTER!!

So MOVE OVER Aunt Jody – you've lost your crown. I am now the new Chocolate Chip Cookie Queen! Even though I would love to take credit for the delicious recipe I found I cannot tell a lie. And I may just share it someday. And they are best when eaten warm right out of the oven. Utterly buttery deliciousness! That is a word, right? BUTTER! It's gotta be BUTTER!

Well done! I guess if you aren't ready to share the recipe...you could send me a cookie?! Just kidding. Enjoyed the read, and I'm with you on the shortening-I've never bought it, don't think I ever will. Yay for butter!

About Me
I live in a cozy ranch home in the country with my husband of 14 years and my two dogs, Smoky and Molly. I have one son who is 24 years old. I have lived Michigan my whole life. I love to cook and bake but I am limited on what I can make at home for the two of us because my husband doesn't like alot of vegies. I would love to try new things, but I can't eat it all by myself:) I work full time outside of the home. I am addicted to allrecipes.com and cookbooks and cooking magazines. You can usually find me reading my recipe books and if I am online, my husband knows I am drooling over recipes and nothing else!
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy cooking dinners and desserts. I would have to say my favorites to cook are lasagna and chicken dishes (like Chicken Marsala and Chicken Picatta). I also enjoy making cookies. I love trying new recipes and adding my own personality to them. I am addicted to putting my own spin on recipes I find here.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have always gone to our family's homes on the holidays, but I always cook a Thanksgiving dinner at home on one of the weekends surrounding Thanksgiving.
My cooking triumphs
I made the best fudge of my life. So creamy and not one bit of graininess. Watch out Mackinaw Island!
My cooking tragedies
I would have to say just recently. I had gotten a new stove with a broiler on the top portion of the oven. I had never used one of these before and I decided to broil steaks in December (2008). I pulled them out to check them and they were not quite done so my husband and I decided to put them back in for a few minutes. I was watching in amazement how the grease was popping up and fireballs were coming down. How dumb was I? Needless to say, right in front of my eyes, the grease on the broiler pan caught fire and it was quite a hectic couple moments in my kitchen that night. I can laugh now, but what was I thinking? Watching fireballs??!! Geez. Tough lessons learned.
