Spicy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2004
This was very good. I used the orange zest (more than called for) but I may cut back on it just a little. I thought the orange flavor was a little bit too much. I didn't have any sherry so I used rice wine instead. I think I might also lessen the amount of soy sauce - it was a little strong. I added broccoli and water chestnuts and it turned out great.

Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2004
This recipe was good. If I really wanted it to be quick I would use frozen veggies. Before adding the milk I used a handheld blender on some of the veggie chunks. I also used about 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning along with the parsley. I thought the recipe called for too much flour. I will use less next time. The soup got too thick for my tastes. Overall a good recipe.

Ranch Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2004
These potatoes were very good but a little bit too thick for my tastes. I only put in half of the cream cheese and used milk instead of heavy cream. They were very tasty and I will add some ranch seasoning to my potatoes again, but if I use the cream cheese I will add more milk.

Sesame Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2004
This was good and easy. I did change a few things. I added 1/4 cup soy sauce to the spices when I marinated the shrimp. Instead of chicken broth I used about 1/2 cup of rice wine and used about 1 tsp of cornstarch. I also substituted soy sauce for the teriyaki sauce. I used powered ginger, but would love to try this with fresh. It turned out very well. My hubby liked it too.

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2004
This was wonderful. My husband always uses steak sauce on steak - but he made an exception for this recipe. We both highly recommend it.

Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2003
I wanted to make wings in my slow cooker because it would be so easy to do - I didn't like them this way. The chicken was very tender - fell off the bone - which was good. The sauce, however, didn't stick to the wings the way I like it to. The fat from the wings combined with the sauce I used and just ended up being watery. I would not recommend doing wings in a slow cooker unless you like wings without much sauce sticking to them.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2003
Fantastic! These are so soft. When I bit into a warm cookie it practically melted in my mouth. The middle was light and airy.

Lemon Pepper Green Beans

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
This was fine. I used this with canned beans and it had a nice light flavor and complemented the meal well. I will make this again.

Key West Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2003
Very good. I cut up the chicken in smaller pieces and sauted on the stove. Served over rice with a side of green beans. My husband and I both loved it. I think next time I will make up a little extra sauce for the rice.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2003
My husband and I both liked this. I cut the chicken up into smaller pieces (each half breast into fourths) to make the chicken cook more quickly, help it stay moist, and to heighten the flavor. I wasn't sure about using 1/2 cup of the vinegar but tried it and it turned out great (even to a non vinegar person like me). I served the chicken over angel hair pasta. Very nice.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2003
I would not have had a problem with these brownies if they had simply turned out to be fudgey brownies. I don't see how you can even consider these to be brownies. They were like mushy fudge-the nastiest consistency for a brownie. If I want fudge, I'll make fudge not brownies. I couldn't even pick up a square of brownie and have it stay intact. The only way to eat them was with a fork or you would get covered in crumbling goo. I will never make these brownies again. I had to add milk to the frosting like a number of people noted. If I make the frosting again I will lessen the vanilla if not omit it completely. I thought it was overpowering.

Cubanos Frijoles

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2003
I thought this was a little bland and I thought the cajun seasoning was a little out of place. If I make this again I will use different spices. I don't like cilantro and I didn't have any chipotle seasoning so went without both. When we have the leftovers I'm going to add some tomato, cheese, and sour cream on the side. It's filling and not bad, but I think it needs to be doctored up some.

Cream Peas

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2003
My mom used to make cream peas every once in a while when I was a kid and I always liked them. This recipe is not how I remember my mom's peas. I didn't have any heavy cream so I used milk (I know my mom wouldn't have used heavy cream anyway). My husband and I thought this was ok but I don't think I will make it again. I didn't use all of the sugar called for and we still thought it was too sweet.

Lime Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2003
The flavor was ok but a little bland for me. I wish I had added a little spice to it, like cayenne pepper. I used 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup flour, as was suggested, and served with rice.

Chinese Peppered Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2003
I didn't really enjoy this recipe, I think primary because I don't always like the taste of cilantro. I couldn't get yardlong beans in my little suburban grocery store and I couldn't find green peppercorns. I won't make this again. It wasn't bad, it just didn't turn out to be a taste that I really enjoyed.

Pasta e Fagioli a la Chez Ivano

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2003
This is a wonderful recipe. I didn't want to make as much soup as this recipe called for so I only used 1lb beef, 1 onion, a few celery stalks and 1 can of beans. I used everything else about like it was called for except for the consomme. I added a little red pepper and I cut up some fresh tomatoes to add in. I might try using Italian sausage instead of ground beef next time. My husband would highly recommend this.

S.O.P.P.

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2003
This was good and easy. I cooked my potatoes mostly in the microwave so I could use less oil. I added red pepper and some hot sauce to zip it up. I added cheddar to it at the very end. My husband and I both liked this a lot. I'll be making in again soon.
