New York Italian Pizza Dough

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2012
I don't have a bread machine OR a stand mixer, so I had a go at this by hand. I've been making bread by hand for years, so I followed classic bread making technique (add the yeast to the warm water and allow it to bloom for 10 min before adding the flour). It is no joke that this dough is wet and sticky, and thanks to the crazy humidity today, it was even wetter and stickier. Honestly, it was a bit of a pain to knead by hand, and I ended up having to add 1/2 cup extra bread flour just to make it manageable, but I left it as sticky as possible. After 10 min of kneading, I let it rise for 30 min at room temp before putting it in the fridge. Before I put it in the fridge, I cut off a small ball of dough and made my daughter a small personal-sized pizza. It was a bit of a trial and error situation to get her pizza made since the dough was still quite sticky, but we ended up just stretching it out right on our pizza stone. I baked it at 425 for 15 min and it came out PERFECT. Crisp on the bottom and chewy in the middle. She gobbled it up. This recipe was TOTALLY worth the sticky fingers. I'm anxious to I make my husband and myself our pizzas after the dough has had time to sit in the fridge. This is officially my go-to pizza dough recipe!

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2012
Delicious! Crisp on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. Just enough sweetness to make it nom-nom without having to pour a ton of syrup on it. Also I love having the butter in the batter. No need to add extra. Definitely my go to waffle recipe from here on out.

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I made these last night, and they were pretty simple and very tasty. My husband had busted into the mini peanut butter cups I had bought and I don't have a mini muffin pan, so I had to improvise a little bit. I made 32 balls and put them on a large cookie sheet, baked them for 10 min and put a frozen peanut butter cup right in the middle. Worked great!

Sloppy Joes II

Easy. Yummy. Inexpensive. My three favorite words. Tangy, sweet, and savory all in one. My whole family devoured this...especially my 2 year old! Great simple recipe. Thanks for sharing!

Four Cheese Macaroni

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
I really want to give this recipe a 5, because, honestly, the flavor of this macaroni was really good. But if I'm going to rate it fairly, I really just think there is WAY too much butter. I mean, I like butter...I REALLY like butter...but this was soooo greasy! I think I could easily cut back the butter to 4 - 5 Tbsp and it would be perfect. The mixture of cheeses was great, though, so I will definitely be trying this again with just a bit less butter. Thanks for sharing! :o)

Fudge Truffle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
A-MAZ-ING! I have never made a cheesecake before, but this turned out PERFECTLY! My cousin has always been the "Cheesecake Queen" in our family, but I think I'll be giving her a run for her money now. I cooked this in a water bath, turned the oven off and left it in the there for an hour after it was done baking, and then left it on the counter for another hour after that, before putting it in the fridge. Not a single crack! It was a thing of beauty. And the taste...oh...the taste. Delicious! My husband says it's better then the chocolate cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory. You REALLY have to like chocolate to appreciate this rich, delectable cheesecake...but if you're craving sinful, chocolaty, decadence, this is your recipe! I wanna make another cheesecake! :o)

Bloody Mary Short Ribs

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2010
I absolutely loved the flavor of this dish, but I just couldn't get over the fattiness of the ribs. I even made sure to pick the leanest ribs I could find at the butchers, and it was still too fatty for my family's tastes. I will be making this again, but I will use a roast instead of the ribs.

Jeanie's Falafel

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2010
Very easy and very delicious! I used a suggestion left by a previous reviewer and added 1 egg white to the mix. I also ended up having to add about 1 tablespoon of water to get the patties to hold together enough to convince me they wouldn't fall apart when I cooked them. They were crispy, crunchy on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. Perfect! I HIGHLY recommend this recipe. Throw these on a pita with some thinly sliced red onion, chopped tomato, a little romaine, a sprinkle of feta, and a healthy dollup of tzatziki sauce....YUMMY!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2010
I have tried numerous brownie recipes that I've found on this site. Most of them are either bland or cake-like, and if I wanted chocolate cake...I'd make a chocolate cake. I prefer my brownies to be dense, chewy, rich and uber chocolaty. These brownies are EXACTLY that! I used Ghirardelli 60% bittersweet chocolate chips instead of the semisweet, but other then that I followed the recipe exactly. I think I may cut back on the sugar next time, and use half white sugar, half brown. As written, this recipe is very deserving of 5 stars, and with a minor adjustment, I think it could be even better! I HIGHLY recommend this recipe!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2010
This recipe is amazing! Just like Grandma used to make, and that is a HUGE compliment! I actually have some dough rising right now. It's the third time in two weeks that I have made this recipe. :o) I've given out a couple of loaves to my co-workers and my in-laws. The consensus is universal. Simple. Delicious. Perfect. I already have the recipe memorized! Can't get much easier then that. Thanks so much for sharing!

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2010
These baguettes rival the ones I buy at the high-end bakery downtown. Delicious! And actually very simple! I tried the recipe out last night and I couldn't be happier with the results! I used the suggestions of other members and brushed with egg whites, instead of egg yolks, to get that yummy crusty outside, and put 1/4 cup of water on the bottom of the oven. I also kneaded the salt in, instead of adding it to the dough right away. The results were awesome! I'm making more tonight, since last night's baguettes have already been ravenously eaten by myself, my hubby, and our little girl. :o)

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2010
These muffins are dense, moist, and DELICIOUS! Such a great banana flavor! I doubled the recipe and made a few changes. I only used half the butter it called for and used unsweetened applesauce in place of the rest of the butter. I only used 2/3 of the sugar called for, and used half white sugar and half brown sugar. I didn't have any eggs so I added an extra banana. Finally I added a touch of vanilla and a bit of cinnamon. I think I'm the only one, but I actually didn't really like the crumb topping. I thought it made a perfect muffin just a little bit too sweet. My hubby, daughter and co-workers love the topping, so I just pick off the topping and enjoy the muffin by itself. This is going to be a staple in our house.

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
I thought this was delicious! I actually added 6 slices of bacon to give it a very distinctive bacon-y flavor. Then I added a small amount of finely shredded onion and a little bit of white wine vinegar. Absolutely yummy! I made them for my daughters second birthday party, and all of the adults AND kids devoured them. Next time I think I'm going to sprinkle the tops with finely chopped tomato and serve the each egg half in a leaf of endive for a twist on a BLT. Mmmmmm....
