Just a regular person. I've become very paranoid about eating (especially salads) in restaurants after watching "Monsters Inside Me" on the Discovery Health channel.
My favorite things to cook
Really depends on the mood I'm in.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always had cranberry sauce with EVERY Christmas dinner when I was growing up. Nobody ever ate any, but we served it anyway because it was considered traditional. That always struck my sister and me as kind of strange, but we always went along with it out of deference to our mom.
My cooking triumphs
I like to experiment and often don't measure anything. It usually comes out tasting good (sometimes great!). But the downside is that I can never re-create it since I don't write anything down when I'm in the throes of creativity.
My cooking tragedies
My friend, Linda, was in 4H as a kid. They tackled cooking. She made applesauce. 4H leader tasted it and said something like, "Linda, this is sour as swill. Didn't you sweeten it?" Linda replied, "Yes. To taste, just like the recipe said to do." She thought that "sweeten to taste" meant that you added a little sugar to the spoonful that you were tasting at the time rather than adding a quantity of sugar to the whole recipe. She is my most literal-minded friend.
