I'm from NY state, moved to Fla. over 30 yrs. ago where I met my husband. We lived in Fla. for several more years, then started traveling, living in an RV with our cat.Eventually ended up back in NY,but moved to Pa. a few years later. We both are retired now, which gives me plenty of time to get back to my first love: cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking and baking most foods, but I'm not a fan of gourmet. We never ate "fancy" food growing up,and it still doesn't appeal to me today.Got my love of cooking from my mom and both of my grandmother's.It runs in the family and my nephew is now a professional chef with his own restaurant. So proud of him.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We grew up in the country,so we were raised on good old home style cooking. Fresh veggies from the garden, pot roast on Sunday's,chicken and dumplings, meatloaf or pork chops and gravy were the norm.Always homemade breads, desserts, home canned fruits, pickles, jams and jelly. Then there was the hand churned ice cream in the summer. Those were the days.
My cooking triumphs
Every time my husband compliments me,which happily is very often.
My cooking tragedies
Have had a few,but the worst was a beautiful chocolate cake I made for a party I was attending many years ago. It was my mom's recipe and the frosting was amazing, but not a good choice for warm weather. For the top of the cake, she would decorate it with chocolate leaves and I insisted on doing the same.It looked beautiful, until we were about half way to the party. The frosting was getting very soft and the layers started to slide.By the time we arrived, well let's just say it was no longer a beautiful cake. But everyone ate it and it still tasted great.
