When I think of butter, memories of my granny flood my mind and I am transported back in time.  I spent many happy hours watching and trying to help her churn butter – more than likely, I was in her way but she never let me know.  The actual making of the butter was a lengthy, arduous task… MORE

About this Cook
Have been cooking forever - since I was old enough to stand in a chair and help my granny cook. My love and addiction to cooking were inherited from her. She taught me many valuable lessons, not only about cooking, but also about life. One of the main things she taught me was one individual can make a difference in another person's life. This quote is a favorite because it reminds me of granny's philosophy: "I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do."-Edward Everette Hale. In January 2012, I officially became a member of the Allrecipes Allstars Brand Ambassador Program. I am excited to be a part of this new adventure. God has blessed me with a loving husband, beautiful daughter and grandchildren. Thank you God for your blessings on me!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Each year, the grandkids come to "Nee-Na & Papa's" and we make rolled sugar cookies for Christmas, package them all up and then we personally deliver them to the seniors in our neighborhood. Everyone looks forward to receiving the cookies and a personal visit from the kids.
My cooking tragedies
We were having guests over and I was preparing a pizza from scratch, upon removing the pizza from the oven, I dropped it upside down on the floor! Embarassing to me then but it has now become a happy recollection.

Buttermilk Strawberry Shortcake
Great simple, easy and delicious recipe. I sliced some of the strawberries ahead of time in order for the juice to form. The only ingredient change I made was to sprinkle with light brown sugar instead of turbinado. A word of caution, watch the baking time. While the recipe does not require whipped cream, I did add it on the side. Going in my favorite recipe file. Thanks Emmie4life for sharing your recipe here on Allrecipes.

Killer Bacon-Cheese Dogs
Made this exactly as written, however, I did lightly brush melted butter on the buns before grilling them. For the barbecue sauce, I used Sweet Baby Ray's. I have to admit I had never used Swiss Cheese, bacon or barbecue sauce on a grilled hot dog and was skeptical as to how this would turn out as we are lovers of mustard, slaw and chili on our hot dogs ! Surprise - this is quite tasty - what is not to like about a delicious beef hot dog, crunchy smoked bacon, tangy cheese, sweet sauce on a butter toasted hot dog bun and sprinkled with spicy onion. Great Memorial Day recipe! Thanks Drink Spiller for sharing!

Make-Ahead Sour Cream Coffee Cake
Great recipe - delicious, light and moist. I prepared in a 9 x 13 glass dish and placed in refrigerator last night, this morning I removed and allowed to warm on the counter before placing in oven. I added 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Next time I make it, I will add 1 teaspoon of salt because I used unsalted butter. Thanks for sharing Maridele - it is a keeper and we enjoyed it!
