Williamsburg Orange Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
I think this is considered a somewhat elegant, old fashioned cake. After it's baked and cooled, I break it into pieces and layer it in sherbert glasses with the orange jello-cool whip combo that you make a jello pie with, drizzeled with orange liqueur.....what a show-stopper! Be sure to use cake flour and sift.

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
After reading many of the reviews, I took the advice plus used an old trick: let your eggs sit to reach room temperature, then separate and whip the whites until they are frothy before adding....this willl fluff up your batter but I wonder, those who thought it was too dense or did not rise much, are you using cake flour or substituting all purpose??

Rosemary Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
I had lost my recipe for Basil shortbread...this works perfectly plus try adding just a touch of lemon zest only about 1 tsp. RAVE compliments....people do like something different some times...I served these at a ladies tea party.

Aunt Joyce's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
I've made a fair number of chocolate cakes in my time but this is now my "GO-TO" choc. cake. This is what Grammy made....this is what little kids dream of...this is what you make when you're DYING for a piece of choc. cake and you positively KNOW that nothing at the store or in a box is going to be worthy of your desire. This is also what you make when you don't have any eggs or oil in the house!! Because I have two friends who are gluten intolerant, I used this as a base and revamped it. THANK YOU AUNT JOYCE. Because it's different enough, if I can figure out how to get it on here, I'll enter it as Auntie Nee's APPLE Gluten free chocolate cake.

Savory Pork Roast

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
I've been afraid of roasts because if you blow it, that's alot of $$$ wasted but this!!! I now buy a long pork loin roast, cut it into 3 or 4 smaller sizes and use this recipe. It's not just the flavor, it's the tenderness! I, too, remove it from the oven when the internal temp is 145 degrees. Truly fork tender, no knives needed!!!

Mid-Summer Italian Bread Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
If you can't find rosemary bread, mash/mince some into oil or even butter, spread on plain French/Italian bread then toast. And you simply MUST have some Kalamata olives on the side!!! To die for! I like the cold meat idea too.

Spinach Salad with Oranges

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2010
This was served to a group of teenagers and they ALL were surprized and ate it all up!! I used fresh orange segments and cut back on the sugar just a little. Don't be afraid to substitute raisins for the cranberries if that's what's in your cubboard, or pecans for walnuts or even chopped up macadamia nuts. A very effective way to get raw veggies into children too!
