Grilled Salmon I

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2011
My husband, who hates fish and usually gags when I convince him to try a bit, asked for seconds of this dish! I didn't have lemon pepper so I just used regular pepper and squeezed fresh lemon once the salmon was cooked. It was so delicious, I've been given the go ahead to make it regularly! Thank you.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2013
So, I basically used this one for some of the spices, but it was really good. This was a stew from a previous meals roast and veggies. I added some homemade veggie and meat stock, salt and pepper, chopped up some celery (about 2-3 stalks) and some parsley and let it cook most of the afternoon. With some Sourdough Drop Tea Biscuits from this site, this was a most satisfying meal.

Sourdough Drop Biscuits

This worked out wonderfully! We used butter instead of oil and these were to die for, melt in your mouth, delicious. This will definitely be our "Oops, we need bread fast!" recipe. Thank you!

Scottish Shortbread II

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2012
I made two batches of this, one following the recipe exactly and the other following the most helpful positive review (2oz sugar, 4oz butter, 6or flour, 300C for 30mins). They both turned out great!

Simple Maple Syrup

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2012
We love this and use it now rather than buying the extremely overpriced brand name stuff. We took some advice from other reviewers and simplified it: 2 cups brown sugar to 1 cup water, and let simmer for 5-10 minutes (it's fine if you don't want to simmer longer, it's just nicer if you do).

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2012
This was amazing! My husband, who is not a soup person and likes his food piping hot, ate this cold and couldn't stop snitching! Definitely a favourite in our house now. I followed this recipe almost exactly, except I used vegetable stock instead of water and margarine instead of butter and I puréed most of it at the end (leaving some chunks for texture). So good!

Asian Stir Fry Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2011
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Strong taste, thick consistency, well balanced. I didn't have cooking sherry so I used cooking wine and I also took advice from others to lessen the corn starch and soy sauce (I did 3/8ths cup of each) and upped the garlic and ginger (1.5 times). It was delicious!

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
This recipe was so simple to make and so delicious! It has become our only Sloppy Joe recipe. We use veal if we have it, and red or green peppers.

Healthy Banana Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2011
I made this recipe and my whole family loved it (including my very picky 20 month old). I added chopped apple, dried cranberries and some walnuts to make them go farther and baked them in a greased baking dish. This made them into soft, granola-like bars instead of cookies.

Aunt Norma's Rhubarb Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2014
These are delicious! Unfortunately my 2 oldest boys did not like them (fault of the rhubarb, or perhaps pieces which were cut too large for their liking). I changed it up only a bit to suit our tastes and what I had on hand. I hadn't any white sugar on hand, so I subbed brown sugar for the topping. Nor did I have walnuts, so I just left those out. We also like to add a little rye flour to all our recipes, so 1/5 of the flour was rye and we only keep milk kefir around, so I used that instead of buttermilk. Lastly, I cut the sugar down to just 1 cup for the muffins. These were very moist. Thanks for the recipe!

Country Quiche

This recipe was great! I didn't have ham, so I used sliced deli turkey and added tomatoes. Will definitely use this recipe again.

Tea Biscuits

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2010
I took one user suggestion and lessened the salt (as I used salted butter) by half. Besides that this recipe is perfect! My husband loves them plain, with butter or made with raisins baked in. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

Smothered Beef Liver

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2013
I'm giving this 5 stars even though I didn't love it. My 3 boys (each of whom are very picky at different meals) and my husband LOVED it. The kids asked for seconds and thirds. It was very tender and the flavour of the tomatoes and spices was nice, but I just don't really like the taste and texture of liver. I'll eat it for the kids, and when I do I'll be making it this way. Thank you!

Left-Over Turkey Pot Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2012
This was a relatively easy recipe to whip up (with three little boys, 2 of whom are teething). I used an "impossible" sourdough biscuit crust to make this even easier (I hate making pie crusts), left out the mushrooms (I love 'em, husband hates 'em), and it was delicious. This is my go-to recipe for white meat pies now.

Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
Our favourite rabbit recipe to date. It's also very forgiving and flexible, as others have stated. We used lard and some smoke flavour in place of bacon (we had none), doubled the onions and tripled the garlic (we love those flavours), and homemade mixed berry jam in place of the currant (again, we had none). We served it on mashed potatoes and grilled dill and lemon carrots on the side. This meal pleased all of my picky toddlers!

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
This was easy and delicious; my husband raved and my young son ate it happily. I didn't have beef bouillon cubes but used vegetable flakes instead. Also omitted the salt completely. Will definitely use this recipe again.
