About this Cook
I've been cooking for over 50 years--meat, potatoes & vegetable. I'm retired now and have the time to be a more adventursome cook. I'm dieting now, I keep looking for low calorie recipes. There is a world of great recipes here.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking for my 4 kids and spouses, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. They always want to bring a dish but I usually tell them I have it covered.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fried potatoes and winers with a jelly sandwich. I suppose it was easy to fix and made the meat go further. When I fixed it for my husband the first time he told me mom made the same thing. My mom was a great cook and didn't work when I was little. I remember the wonderful cakes she made. White cake with lemon filling, or cherry nut cake. And desserts. Wow, I'm getting hungry.
My cooking triumphs
I can whip up a dinner for company from what I have on hand in a half hour. And it will be good too. Wonder chocolate pudding cake (I make mine in the microwave) has saved me several times because it is supposed to be served warm.
My cooking tragedies
After 50 years of cooking I have ruined supper many times. We always have hot dogs in the freezer. We just do a quick change.

Belle's Hamburger Buns
I've tried several recipes, and this is the best.

Impossible Pumpkin Pie
Love this recipe. You don't get that flour taste and it has the texture of real pumpkin pie. Next time I will try pumpkin pie spice just because this one doesn't have exactly the same flavor I am used to.

Pot Roast in Beer
I loved making this dish. It's made with ingredients I usually have on hand. I thought my gravy was too thin when I took the roast out of the pan to cut so I added some corn starch. Then being lazy, I added carrots and potatoes for a one-dish Meal. I made it all on the stovetop. So easy.
